"It's Raining Men" is a song written by Paul Jabara and Paul Shaffer (of "Late Night With David Letterman" fame) in 1979, and originally recorded by The Weather Girls in 1982. The song had been offered to a who's-who of female singing legends including Donna Summer, Grace Jones, Diana Ross, Cher, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Teena Marie, Gloria Gaynor, and even Barbra Streisand before being accepted by The Weather Girls, with their version becoming an huge international hit, selling over 6 million copies worldwide. The original members were Martha Wash and Izora Armstead, previously known as Two Tons O' Fun, who were former back-up singers for Sylvester and Bob Seger. "Its Raining Men" went to number one on the US Disco/Dance Club chart in October 1982. It also made number 34 on the US R&B chart and number 46 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song, released from the Weather Girls' album "Success", is hailed as a camp classic, as a dance anthem, as a classic female anthem, and as a gay anthem.
