Pendulum Waves
Fifteen uncoupled simple pendulums of monotonically increasing lengths dance together to produce visual traveling waves, standing waves, beating, and (seemingly) random motion. For more details see sciencedemonstrations.fas.harvard.edu The period of one complete cycle of the dance is 60 seconds. The length of the longest pendulum has been adjusted so that it executes 51 oscillations in this 60 second period. The length of each successive shorter pendulum is carefully adjusted so that it executes one additional oscillation in this period. Thus, the 15th pendulum (shortest) undergoes 65 oscillations. Our apparatus was built from a design published by Richard Berg [Am J Phys 59(2), 186-187 (1991)] at the University of Maryland. Police said 200 to 300 bodies were found in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai, the city in Miyagi prefecture, or state, closest to the epicentre. New dramatic video: Tsunami wave spills over seawall, smashes boats, cars
Follow latest updates at twitter.com and www.facebook.com Dramatic new pictures emerged on Sunday of a tsunami wave smashing into the Japanese town of Miyako, in Iwate Prefecture, on Friday. The wave crashes over the seawall carrying away everything in its path, including boats that topple over the wall and are smashed into a bridge. Cars were simply washed away, crashing into each other and buildings. More than 1400 people were killed by the quake and resulting tsunamis and hundreds more were still missing, according to officials, but police in one of the worst-hit areas estimated the number of dead there alone could eventually top 10000.

I wanted to try and different version by using the black lights and also to add a little production value instead of just simply showing the effect. The effect works by using a formula that provides the specific length for each string. When all of the pendulums are started at once the patterns will start to form. The pattern resets after about 1 minute. I glued white poster board on the sides of the nuts and used a black light, causing the white to glow. There's a major search and rescue operation underway in Japan. 300 hundred military planes and 40 ships have joined the mission to survey the damage. It's the north east of Japan which has been worst hit by the massive tsunami caused by the biggest in nearly a century and a half. At the centre the city of Sendai, where the worst is feared for hundreds perhaps thousands of people. The official figure of dead is currently 95 and rising. And thr threat from the monster waves goes all around the Pacific basin with strong aftershocks still being felt. Alerts have been put in place as far away as California all the way to Alaska.

Hey Guys! Long time no hair tutorial ^^. Here is a life saver hair trick that will save you time in the morning or even for night time. This hairstyle will give you awesome beautiful waves without using damaging hot hair tools. 10 minutes before you sleep is all you'll need for this hairstyle. You can even wear this hairstyle during the day (such as school) and unravel the braids if you are going somewhere later that day ^^. My best friend does this trick when she stays over at a friends house. This way she won't need to carry straighteners, tongs with her. She can travel light since hair ties are so tight and small. It is a basic concept and I'm pretty sure a lot of girls braid their hair before sleeping for waves. So therefore this is definitely nothing new. A french braid gives waves for the top layers but they are looser which makes the hairstyle look great. Your waves should be soft and nicely defined. Your hair should also appear thicker and fuller. French lighthouses and VERY BIG waves during stormy weather (+ description)
This video was taken on the 7th of december 2007 in "Raz de Sein" at the western tip of France, in Brittany, on a (very) stormy day. Those lighthouses isolated in the open sea are/were called "Hells" because of the roughness of living conditions inside these isolated buildings, frequently harassed by the elements. The first one seen in the video is Ar Men ("The Rock" in Breton), one of the best known lighthouses because of its isolated situation and the considerable difficulties its construction has presented (14 years were needed to build it !!), and the danger in evacuating its personnel. Considered as one of the most challenging workplaces by the community of lighthouse keepers, it has been named "The Hell of Hells". It has been automated in 1990. Later we can see Tévennec, a little known lighthouse situated on the east side of the Sein Island. It had such bad luck in store for its guardians that it was suspected to be baleful, or even haunted. Indeed, during stormy weather, some keepers reported that gloomy screams could be heard. Recently a cave was found in the rock on which Tévennec was built, that may explain the weird noises heard by the keepers. Since nobody wanted to live on this rock anymore, this lighthouse was automated way before the others, in 1910. Nowadays, general automation makes human presence useless aboard these ocean look-out posts. In 2004, Kéréon, the Palace of the sea, the last lived-in open sea lighthouse, definitely closed its doors over its <b>...</b>

The wave face measured about 90 feet, according to a news release announcing the feat. McNamara, a known big-wave surfing guy from Hawaii, was riding large waves with Andrew Cotton and Al Mennie when 3 huge waves appeared on the outside.
