I was out and about looking to shoot some test footage in low light and evening time with my new Creative Labs Vado HD pocket cam. Our downtown area looks extra special this time of year, so I decided to do a short shoot there. I have always been fond of peering into the shop displays downtown. The little knick knacks almost seem to have a magical quality about them. I encourage everyone in the area to come down and visit our historic downtown. I am sure that you will find someone wonderful for that special someone in your life. This footage has been edited with Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate. I added filters and soft focus effects to it, as well as transitions and lighting tweaks. Sorry about that, you have to watch in HD to even get close to what it looked like on my PC or TV. I will look into future tweaks to make up for the brightness loss. Hope you like it regardless though. :-) The normal version of the video took even a bigger hit due to compression. The subtle details of the dark tones were lost even more. Your viewing experience could also be altered due to your PC monitor's brightness level or videocards overlay setting perhaps. Hmm, back to the drawing board ;-)

While other brands may catch more headlines the Vado HD is the small portable video cam for you. It combines portability, ease of use, quality with features that are not found on competing models. One thing that separates the Vado for the competition is its ability to record in standard definition, HD and HD+. Why is it important to be able to video quality options? Some medias do not need HD quality - when you upload videos to Facebook or YouTube HD videos take significantly longer to upload. However, there are times when it is great to record in HD... vacations... weddings... and so on. Pros - The ability to record using three levels of video quality. - Great capacity! 2 hours of HD and 8 hours of standard definition - Comes with a replaceable rechargeable battery - Very large viewing screen, especially for the size of the camera - Comes with a rubberized case - Very simple to use - works great with both a Mac and a PC/Windows - Smaller than a typical cell phone - Comes with a HDMI port and cables - this allows you to plug the Vado HD directly into your HD television Final verdict - A great camera that offers a significant amount of recording flexibility. The only real area for improvement is some sort of image stabilization capability , however to my knowledge, none of the cameras in this class offers this feature. This is just another short video test by my new Creative Labs Vado HD pocket cam. I am really liking it so far, it is amazing to know that you have a video camera that can record 720P in your pocket. I used Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate to add some filters to the video. I am going to work on my cuts, transitions, and pacing for future videos. I was out and about looking for some test footage to shoot using my new Creative Labs Vado HD pocket cam. I saw a big group of cars around and decided to investigate. It was a car show, cool! Here are a few of the cars I looked at. They were recorded in 720P HD, I was using a monopod so excuse the occasional shakiness. Please select the HD version of the video for the full resolution playback. The video is untouched (no effects or filters) except for some transitions added with Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate. Enjoy.

Creative's VADO HD Night Test in NYC Streets. Compilation of videos taken one evening driving on Manhattan streets. Some scenes very shaky due to NYC's notorious 'smooth' streets - watch the road. All scenes stitched together using the included editing software that comes with Vado HD. First upload did not show in YouTube as HD. This time it did. (Edited using included MUVEE software) I liken the Vado HD to a portable webcam in HD. PROS: * Affordable ($199 at the time). * Replaceable 2hr battery. * 2Hrs of HD+ (720P). * 8 GB built-in. * Fairly decent in low light. * Wider angle than others in same category (which also equates to better light sensitivity). * Small, not bulky, fits in shirt, coat or pants pocket. Easy to use, take it anywhere. * Color reproduction is very good. * Contrast is very good. * Built-in USB port * Built-in HDMI * Can upload directly to YouTube, PhotoBucket, or Box.net CONS: * No macro focus. (Anything closer that 18" or so is out of focus.) * Digital zoom is soft. * There is no image stabilization so you need a tripod or steady hand. * Built-in 8GB is fine for 2 hours, but it is not removable or expandable. * Video software that is included (very basic) is adequate but leaves much to be desired.
Interesting comparison between the Mini DV MD80 (about $10 on eBay), the Creative Vado HD and the Canon Powershot SD600 Digital Elph. I have to say that uploading to YouTube is a mystifying experience for me as far as what format to upload in and what video quality settings, frame rates, etc to choose. Sadly the video I compiled has lost quite a bit of quality and i don't know why. I used iMovie HD to compile the movie so if anyone has any suggestions as to the optimum export settings to use, I'm all ears. I'd upload this again if I could ensure it would be better. The Creative Vado HD has the worst audio and best picture. The MD80 has surprisingly good audio and so-so video quality. The SD600 has great audio and pretty darn good video.

For my birthday I received the Creative Vado HD which appeared to be the best HD camcorder in the small form factor class. In three of Chris Pirillo's videos he filmed the same thing with the Creative Vado HD, the Flip Mino HD, and the Kodak Zi6. The Flip Mino HD and the Creative Vado HD appeared to have the better picture but the Creative Vado had a lower price, a wider viewing angle, and the picture quality appears to be slightly better.
Creatives third-generation Vado HD cant necessarily compete with the picture quality of rivals, but an affordable $180 price tag and small size definitely work in its favor.
