Here is a little project in which I created extreme slow motions using Twixtor for Premiere Pro. The images are pretty grainy because I had to boost the ISO to manage a shutter speed short enough to obtain crisp single frames (see below). I used some tracking points in the second extreme slow motion part (when the tangerine comes down again) to prevent blending ghosts. Enjoy and leave comments! If you don't want to have any warping or artifacts try to have a clean background behind the subject that is being slowed down. As you can see in this video the slow motion only occurs when i am in the sky. (warping does occur but since the sky is basically the same colour you can't see it. I would have to say getting good footage is 90% of this effect. when i import my footage to premiere or after effect i make sure that i choose the right frame rate that i filmed in. (720p 60fps). when you apply twixtor to the video you need to also make sure the settings comply with your video. make sure your input framer rate is exact! i thought my camera shoots 60fps but it actually shoot 59.94. make sure you are exact. based on your footage from there you will have to play with it. try different blend modes etc.. i can't give a tutorial because everyones footage is different. just be patients and play around with it. I've read a lot about the quirks of this plug-in from other people on vimeo and various web-sites, and decided to test it in tricky detailed situations as well to see where it would and wouldn't hold up. I know there are things that aren't perfect with the use of twixtor in this video for those of you that are looking for artifacts and such, but I was pleasantly surprised with the leaf footage which was shot assuming that twixtor would slaughter the footage. Some of it was unusable, but I had better luck than I had anticipated. As you've all probably heard before, the less detail the better. (I should have maybe thought about that before wearing that winter coat of crazy colours) haha *everything was shot with shutter speeds between 1/1000 & 1/2000 and slowed down to either 3% or 5%* I'm going to be doing some more twixtor tests with other footage I have shot over the past week, so I'm sure I'll be learning more. Warping is inevitable, that is what the plugin does, but there are little things you can so the warping is minimal, this video explains it. Some video shot on the Rebel t3i at 60fps, using Twixtor Express to slow down the footage to 1000fps. Twixtor Express is far from perfect. There are basically no settings to tweak, so you have to be careful with the shots you try to slow down and you have to be using a pretty high shutter speed (2000 - 4000) to get the clarity needed for the right effect. About a week ago I recently purchased a Canon T2i to add to my arsenal. I wanted to head out and shoot some longboarding as a test for both the T2i and Twixtor. This is also the first film that I've color corrected entirely in after effects. I also tried my hand at actually grading the image as opposed to just correcting it as a whole. WEBCAM AUDIO LAG, nothing i can do i tryed lining it up in vegas and it just wont match up so yeh, anyways the tutorial still makes sense you just need the audio and the video with it anyways it doesnt need to match up:) camera settings: ISO-try to stay below 800 F-stop-any, recommended 5.6 and lower shutter speed-i always go to 4000 its doable at 1000 and up though. keep everything in focus if you have a busy background if not you can add some DOF. good luck ask any questions in the comments section below thanks and subscribe:)
