After hearing neighbors' stories of wild turkeys chasing down joggers and other residents in an Arden area neighborhood, News10 producer Duffy Kelly went out for a first-hand look. Duffy said she "didn't want to take the 'Terrible Tom' stories at face value," so on Thursday she went to the neighborhood and tried to walk past one of the birds. Duffy had her camera rolling for her unexpected turkey run. Neighbors told Duffy the turkeys have been in the area for years and usually scurry away when folks walk by. They say only recently two turkeys broke off from the flock and are intent on standing guard in their own empty lot. Some people are carrying sticks to frighten off the turkeys, but neighbors say they don't want any harm to come to them. They just want friendlier neighbors.

CCTV cameras in the Turkish city of Van have captured dramatic video footage of the moment Wednesday's 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck. Security footage from violently shaking cameras showed people running out of buildings, lights going out and thick clouds of smoke enveloping streets in the provincial capital. The quake - which struck in the same Turkish province that was hit by a deadly temblor last month - has killed at least 10 people, including a Japanese aid worker. Turkish authorities on Tuesday said the death toll from the earthquake in eastern Turkey has jumped to 432. At least nine people were rescued on Tuesday, although many more bodies were discovered after Sunday's quake. Rescuers in Ercis and the provincial capital, Van, raced against time to free dozens of people trapped inside mounds of concrete, twisted steel and construction debris. Aerial views of the two cities filmed on Tuesday showed the extent of the quake damage. Close to 500 aftershocks have rattled the area since Sunday, according to Turkey's Kandilli seismology centre, and a moderately strong one on Tuesday, measuring 5.4, sent residents rushing into the streets. Authorities have warned survivors in the mainly Kurdish area not to enter damaged buildings and thousands spent a second night outdoors in cars or tents in near-freezing conditions, afraid to return to their homes. Turkey's interior minister said on Monday that the death toll in a 7.2-magnitude earthquake has reached 270. Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin told the Associated Press television that more 1000 others were injured in the temblor that struck eastern Turkey a day earlier. On Monday, rescuers pulled out several people alive from collapsed buildings in Ercis, including a man who managed to call for help on his cell phone. Dozens of people were trapped in hills of debris, but authorities offered hope that the death toll may not rise as high as initially feared. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who inspected the area late Sunday, said "close to all" mud-brick homes in surrounding villages had collapsed in the temblor that also rattle parts of Iran and Armenia. Rescuers searched throughout the night among pancaked buildings as families members waited outside, some in tears. Cranes and other heavy equipment lifted slabs of concrete and residents searched for the missing with shovels. Aid groups scrambled to set up tents, field hospitals and kitchens to assist thousands left homeless or who were afraid to re-enter their homes. Powerful earthquake shakes eastern Turkey ANKARA, Turkey (AP) -- A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.2 struck eastern Turkey Sunday, collapsing some buildings and causing a number of deaths, officials said. At least 50 people were injured. The temblor struck eastern Van province at 6:41 am ET, the US Geological Survey said. It caused widespread panic throughout the province as well as neighboring cities. "The quake was strongly felt in Van and neighboring towns, and caused damage and deaths based on initial assessments," the prime minister's office said. The earthquake toppled some buildings in downtown Van as well as the neighboring town of Ercis, officials said. Several strong aftershocks also were reported. "There are so many dead. Several buildings have collapsed. There is too much destruction," Zulfikar Arapoglu, the mayor of Ercis, told NTV television. "We need urgent aid. We need medics." NTV also said Van's airport was damaged and planes were being diverted to neighboring cities. Terrified residents spilled into the streets in panic as rescue workers and residents using their bare hands and shovels struggled to evacuate people believed to be trapped under collapsed buildings, television footage showed. An explosion has hit the Turkish capital, Ankara, on Tuesday, according to Reuters. At least two have been killed and ten injured. The blast reportedly occurred on a minibus in the downtown Kizilay district. Several vehicles were damaged and glass in the windows of several nearby buildings shattered.
