Watch in HD720p or 1080p mode for High Quality Audio! Timber Timbre is a Canadian folk music project, featuring Mika Posen, Simon Trottier and Taylor Kirk. The moniker refers to an early series of recordings made in a timber-framed cabin set in the wooded outskirts of Bobcaygeon, Ontario. Timber Timbre's sound has been described as "an aesthetic rooted in swampy, ragged blues" and "beautifully restrained blues from an alternate universe", which creates an atmosphere that is cinematic and spooky --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sadly, "Magic Arrow" seems to the only cut on this album to have a bothersome distortion on the right channel vocals. Rest of the album has a nice warm sound. Technical notes: Vinyl was washed in a 'Spin Clean Record Washer System' and treated with 'Gruv Glide'. Recorded from an Audio Technica AT-LP120usb turntable/Audio Technica AT-440Mla cartridge, into the phono input of a Harman/Kardon 330c receiver, and finally into an Onkyo Wavio SE-U33GXV USB Digital Audio processor. Recorded from my laptop using Audacity @ 24bit/48000 Hz. Exported from Sony Vegas in WMV format with the following settings: Audio: 2.3 Mbps, 48000 Hz, 24 Bit, Stereo, WMA Pro Video: 29.970 fps, 1280x720 Progressive, 6.3 Mbps Youtube knocks the audio down from the above, to 96kbps in 360p/480p, and 128kbps in 720p/1080p mode. So make sure you watch this video in 720p or 1080p mode for high quality audio!

The infatuation in the lyrics here runs deep, and it's tempting to hear the record from beginning to end just to see how bad the train wreck gets. Not that lyrics and some mild psychosis are all this album has going for it. There are plenty of fantastic arrangements, which were created with the aid of Mathieu Charbonneau. Colin Stetson lays some great horn parts down, and Mark Lawson helped take the Timber's production up another level. The music--outside of the instrumentals--lives in a world were doo wop and rockabilly reign supreme. And it puts an innocent backdrop behind the insane musings of this character painted in the words. It's a shadowy standout in the world of lovesick albums. What do you think of this album? Love it? Hate it? Released in 2009 on Arts & Crafts. Timber Timbre used to be the solo project of recording artist Taylor Kirk, then he got signed to Arts & Craft and enlisted 2 other people to form a travelling trio. He's been making music as Timber Timbre since 2005. This is his 3rd album. Nominated for a Polaris Music Prize in 2009, Timber Timbre make haunted, understated, moody, stripped down, folksy, bluesy, rock music. And it's rad as hell. Consisting of sparse song arrangements, dark subject matter, introverted emotion. It's all fairly slow paced, loaded with emotional resonance. Think of Portishead without the electronics and female vocals. Replace their equipment with some violins, keyboards, acoustic guitars and banjos. Then you'll start getting the idea. Taylor Kirk singing voice is mournful, warbled and soulful. His lyrics deal with the supernatural, loss, despair. He issues warnings to certain people to watch their backs. He practices verbal voodoo. He sounds like a pretty cool guy. This is definitely some rainy day music. The soundtrack for when you're at your lowest. It's elegantly crafted, beautiful to listen to, full of understated sophistication. It's a real blast. I'd recommend this to fans of good music everywhere. Engaging, atmospheric, easy to digest. I can't say enough good things about it. Check it out. 4.4 / 5
