Location scout (Canon EOS 550D/t2i)
Today, me and my friend Eskild were looking for a location to shoot our next action video. We are planning to make a short action scene, and today we found a very nice location. Instead of just taking boring location pictures, I filmed Eskild with my EOS 550D so we could edit it and get a feeling on how this location would look like in a film. Everything was shot either handheld or with a handheld steadycam. I used only the standard lens that comes with the camera, and used only the sun as light source. It was quite nice to use the dust/sand to create smoke in the sunlight appearing from the window :) I'm very pleased with the footage, and I'm more then excited to shoot an action scene in that location one day! DSLR film-look (Canon EOS 550D/Rebel T2i)
My second test of my brand new Canon EOS 550D. The first clips are raw-footage captured in 1920x1080 25f, auto ISO with a Canon 50mm USM f1.4 lens. I captured this clips before I found out that it was possible to adjust the ISO-level manually. I was so happy when I found it out :) The last clips are also shot with the 550D, but adjusted dramatically in a software called "Color". Hope you enjoy the video. DSLR Actionfilm (Canon 550D/Rebel t2i/7D)
After using my Canon 550D/Rebel t2i for shooting different project the past months, I decided that I wanted to make an actionfilm to test it even more. I bought a new lens for my camera: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM, and a field sound recorder: Zoom ZOH4NK H4n and a boompole so I could record much better sound, and get closer to the object with the shotgun microphone. We filmed everything during one day with a Canon 7D and Canon EOS 550D on homemade shoulder-rigs, and used only natural light (the sun and the existing lamps on location). I used Final Cut Pro to edit the film and Color to colorcorrect. I added blood bursts, muzzle flashes, gun-shells and so on in After effects. For this particular video, Jace Leroy was the main camera guy on it, then Kristen Hillier, and then I. This video was shot mostly with the Canon T2i, at 60 fps. A couple shots were done with the Canon 5D, and one shot was done with the GoPro Hero camera. You can buy more about GoPro cameras in their official website below. www.GoPro.com I used After Effects to re-render the frame rate to make it play much slower then 60fps. I used an effect called "Time Warp". A lot of people have sent me messages asking me what settings I used with "Time Warp" in after effects, and this isn't a question I can totally answer because I just did it by trial and error. Each video clip I just had to play with each of the settings to adjust what looked best. It took me 4 days of figuring this out. The bottom line was just experimenting with what looked best, and then waiting forever for it to render out. For sound design I experimented with sound effects of cameras, war sounds, and I used the original "landing on the moon", because I felt that best conveyed flight. Also, an interesting other thing, the composer Stephen, he took another song he had did that had lyrics, and he super slowed the song down for this piece, then he altered it to <b>...</b>

www.learningdslrvideo.com Ryan Connolly did good comparison of these cameras some time ago, but since I like to do my own testing I thought I would run some similar tests. I found similar results to what Ryan found, except I didn't see that the T2i was more saturated than the 5D. Color and saturation are so similar you could easily mix both footage You might be asking, "Dave, why are you comparing the 5D mark II to the 550D when the mark 3 is coming soon? Yes it is true that the 5D in terms of features almost feels historic when compared to it's little cropped frame brothers when it lacks a ton of cool features like focus points faster shutter drive a level built in zoom, tilt out screen. But the reason the 5D is Canon's flag ship product for professionals is because of the full frame.

No auto. Although auto exposure is a feature of this camera. When i wasn't using the Monopod i was using a simple and old trick. A beanbag. A great bit of kit to use for those stable shots where support isn't viable. I also used the bean bag for the side and windshield car shots. Various frame rates and resolutions were used in this production to give me a desired effect. i will be placing an amazon store cart here soon so you will be able to purchase the kit i used. Sony A33 vs Canon 550D/t2i (Video mode)
Welcome to this video test and comparison between the Sony A33, and the Canon 550D, which is also called Canon Rebel t2i. I have only compared the video modus in these two cameras and seen which one that is most suitable for film-making. it's quite obvious that these two cameras are ment for two different types of usage. Are you a beginner who wants a DSLR camera to film home videos, family videos, travel videos and so on, the Sony A33 is a very good chose. The only things I miss on this camera is the full manual exposure adjustment, a bit better microphone and a bigger range of lenses to chose from. The Canon 550D/t2i is a bit older, but has the same video quality. Because of all the manual adjustments you can do with this camera, it's a very good chose for film-makers. If this camera had autofocus and a built in stabilizer, it would be everyones dreamcamera. This will hopefully happen in a couple of years. I can't wait! Stalman Talks Photography - Episode 4, Part 2 stalman.ca An overview of the top three video DSLRs out right now from Canon - the 5D markII, 7D and T2i. A tough choice, and each of these cameras has it's roll to play. By the way, this video was shot on the T1i, and it was a terrible experience. Moire, artifacting, auto white balance and exposure changing mid scene, it drove me up the wall. Great for stills, not so great for video. Canon T2i/550D 7D Disable AGC Automatic Gain Control Hack for the Rode Videomic
Watch part 2 here: www.learningdslrvideo.com s you can see by the video below I finally figured out how to disable or bypass the AGC (Automatic Gain Control) on my Canon T2i 550D while using the Rode VideoMic. (This will work for the Canon 7D as well). I ran across a good video by Mike B at IamTheMikeB.com, he explain how to disable the AGC which I had to give a try. But I couldn't get his hack to work for my Rode Videomic and judging the comments on his video no one else could either. I made 3 trips to Radio Shack but none of these adapters worked. Don't buy the ones I got if you have a Rode VideoMic. I didn't want to get a JuicedLink or a Zoom H4N or anything else that would add time and steps to my DSLR video workflow, I like to keep it cheap and simple. perhaps someday Canon will be nice and provide a firmware update for the AGC, but I didn't want to wait any longer. The problem is Canon designed a poor automatic gain control AGC which would have been better if they left it out of the design all together. What happens is if you talk really loud into the microphone the AGC will bring your level down which eliminates the hiss, but only 1 second later after you stop talking it brings the level all the way up again (along with the hiss). What we want to do is clamp the AGC down and keep it there to keep the hiss away so we can have nice clean audio. To do this I use an old cheap mp3 player I had collecting dust to playback a 1 hour 19kHz sine wave tone by sending the tone <b>...</b>
