The Story of Bottled Water (2010)

storyofbottledwater.org The Story of Bottled Water, released on March 22, 2010 (World Water Day) employs the Story of Stuff style to tell the story of manufactured demand—how you get Americans to buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap. Over five minutes, the film explores the bottled water industrys attacks on tap water and its use of seductive, environmental-themed advertising to cover up the mountains of plastic waste it produces. The film concludes with a call to take back the tap, not only by making a personal commitment to avoid bottled water, but by supporting investments in clean, available tap water for all. Our production partners on the bottled water film include five leading sustainability groups Corporate Accountability International, Environmental Working Group, Food & Water Watch, Pacific Institute, and Polaris Institute. Deep Waters New Zealand Bottled Water Story

DEEP WATERS sources all of its water from a 239 foot (73 metre) deep confined aquifer. DEEP WATERS begins its journey from the most isolated part of the globe; Antarctica. Water vapour lifted by powerful cold katabatic winds travels across the ice-cold southern ocean before falling as rain, high in the spectacular Southern Alps of the South Island of New Zealand. The water then naturally makes its way via underground rivers towards the coast, finding paths in to confined aquifers, undergoing natural filtration while gaining essential minerals along the way. The water is greater than 80 years old before it flows out of the ground and in to the DEEP WATERS bottles.

1/3 Peter Gleick on Exposing the Truth about Bottled Water

Part 2: www.youtube.com Originally Uploaded by TZMBigsteelguy on Nov 25, 2010 Bottled vs. Tap Water First hour guest, author Peter Gleick talked about America's obsession with bottled water. There has been an intentional effort to make the public fear tap water, but in blind taste tests people actually can't taste the difference between bottled and tap water, he reported. Further, tap water quality is monitored by the EPA, in a much more stringent process than the testing of bottled water, which is typically done by the companies themselves rather than by independent sources, he noted. Tap water is safe almost everywhere in the US It takes far more water to make the plastic bottle than it even holds. Most bottled water is simply water from somebody else's tap!
