The designs on the shirts are not photoshopped. They are real shirts for each frame of animation. The video was exported at 30fps, while the T-shirt animation moves at 6fps (with a few exceptions where it moves faster) So, for each shirt, we took 5 pictures, so the animation of us (Rhett&Link) moves at 30fps, but the T-shirt animations move a bit slower. There are a few places where the motion seems so smooth that it looks like video. Some may not consider this an illusion. Heres the definition of illusion: something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality. The idea for this started when I was editing the behind the scenes footage for the Fire Illusion video. I sped up the footage of me blowing out the candles and it looked really cool to see the candles going from being lit to unlit so quickly ..and it hit me that the candles could be used as pixels. I spent a couple of weeks thinking about how involved it would be to do. My initial goal was to animate classic videos games, such as tetris, pong, pac-man and mario bros. After testing I realized mario bro's would be too hard and I gave up. I stuck with tetris, pong and pac-man but since those didnt take up much time I decided to include a few random shapes. The initial goal was to light each candle individually and blow it out according to the required movements of each shape. I soon realized that it was just not going to be practical. The main problem was keeping the flame consistent on the candles. Some candles would burn perfectly. Others would burn out quickly. I decided to take a different approach. I took a picture of all the candles unlit ..and then lit all the candles ..and took a picture of that. I know that some people will consider that <b>...</b>

Before the movie industry went all CGI computer animation, this was one of the Stop Motion tests done by Tippett Studio (back around 1992) for the original Jurassic Park film. Steven Spielberg was going to use state-of-the-art Stop Motion, but later changed his mind and went with computer CGI dinosaurs for JP. The news media & public wrongly judge old Stop Motion from 40 years ago and compare it to current CGI animation. Public does not know the potential of modern Stop Motion for Harryhausen'esque style creature special effects work. As you can see, sophisticated stop motion does have a different, more tactile, flavor. Not photo-real exact, but maybe surreal-real compared to the typical hyper fluid, air-brushy CGI creature effects works. ------------------------ This animation walk cycle was looped to slightly lengthen the test. That's why you will see an occasional cyclical jerk as it loops

A stop motion animation that I created as my final project for my "Art and Alternative Media" class at Boston College. The movie is comprised of over 300 frames, and the only materials that I used were paper, colored pencils, glue, and cardboard. Using graph paper I recreated the pixel data 1:1 with the different colored pencils and then cut out each "sprite" after gluing it to cardboard for stability. The coloring and cutting out took a long time, but shooting the frames and putting together the video probably in total took about 36 hours. Please enjoy it, rate, and comment!
