Common talks New Album, No ID, Kanye, album with Nas, acting, Soulquarians + More

www.hardknock.tv Exclusive in-depth interview with Common. In part 1 Common talks to Nick Huff Barili about his new album "The Dreamer, The Believer" which he says is produced by No ID, who handled the production of Common's early albums. Common states that although the new album is not coming out through Kanye's Good Music label, he still considers himself part of Good Music because he and Kanye are like brothers. Common address the rumors that him and Nas are working on an album, stating that they were originally going to put out a mixtape together called Nas (dot) Com but that they are now going to make an album together after both of them put our there solo albums. In his book "One Day It Will All Make Sense" Common mentions that early in his acting career he had a hard time getting non-stereotypical roles. In this interview with Hard Knock TV he mentions that his ideal role would be to play a character like James Bond. Common goes on to explain how acting has helped his music. Common ends part 1 of this interview by sharing his thoughts on the possibility that there will ever be a Soulquarians album. We are just getting started, tuned in to Part 2 to hear Common talk about his book "One Day It Will All Make Sense". Hawthorne Headhunters - She Wanna

The Hawthorne Headhunters is a project made up of the individuals; Stoney Rock, Ced No and Proh Mic. The project was conceived in Ced's Studio in that special place between Long Beach and Los Angeles - Hawthorne, California. The St. Louis natives Ced and Veto, and Seattle transplant, Proh Mic locked it down under the shine of Hollywood Park and created some sounds in the great traditions of musical heavyweight projects such as Funkadelic, Headhunters, Soulquarians, Native Tongues Posse and Bloomfield, Kooper, Stills' Super Session. Crossing the lines between the Southern influenced tastes of the producer/singer/rapper Stoney Rock, keyboard and studio controller Ced No, fused with the next level northern bounce of rapper/producer Proh Mic, the HH's is at the crossroads of funk, soul, jazz and hip hop from players already years deep into the game. Look for the album to drop later this year on the new HVW8 records imprint.

Common - Nag Champa (Afrodisiac For The World)

The album's cover photo, 1956 Alabama by Gordon Parks, is a photo of a young black woman in Alabama, dressed for church, and drinking from a "Colored Only" drinking fountain. Like Water for Chocolate is the fourth studio album by American hip hop rapper Common, released March 28, 2000 on MCA Records. It was a considerable critical and commercial breakthrough for Common, receiving generally favorable reviews from major magazine publications and selling 70000 copies in its first week. The album was certified Gold on August 11, 2000 by the Recording Industry Association of America. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the album has sold 748000 copies by March 2005. The video for "The Light" was frequently shown on MTV, adding to Common's exposure. The album also formally marked the formation of the Soulquarians, a collective composed of ?uestlove (of The Roots), Jay Dee (formerly of Slum Village), keyboardist James Poyser, soul artist D'Angelo and bassist Pino Palladino, among numerous other collaborators. This group of musicians would also be featured on Common's next album, Electric Circus.

Reebok Classics Presents: Common

In 2005, Common released his sixth studio album, and second gold record, Be. In describing the album's concept shortly after its release, he said, "I named it Be to be who you are, man, and be able to be in the moment and not try too hard. Be is another way of saying just do without trying hard, like I said, natural and be true to the core of who you are; and this album, I wanted to just be and not just go and exist as just an artist, not worried about the past."

D'Angelo / Chicken Grease (Instrumental)

Ripped from the Voodoo DJ Soul Essentials. Notes from ?uestlove about the song: by mid 99 the soulquarians were in full swing (d, me, jaydee, james poyser) and we were working on common's ''like water for chocolate'' when we came up with this lethal jam. it was so good that d pulled me to the side and said ''i ain't no indian giver....but i ain't lettin Com walk off with this song..'' he called me 3 times that morning begging to ask com for that track. com agreed, and we named it ''chicken grease'' after a phrase that prince uses when he wants his guitarist to play a 9th minor chord while playing 16th notes. feelwise we were paying tribute to george clinton. there's the greek chorus thing going on. very loose. reminiscent of ''flashlight''.

WinkBall Music : Bilal Interview

www.winkball.com - Bilal has his fans talking about him left right and centre, whether it be contesting how great a singer he is or how his old and new material compare, his fans love his deep lyrics, beautiful melodies, soulfulness and inspirational vibes that he releases in both the studio and on stage. WinkBall citizen video reporters Nkechi, Dan and Scott were at the Jazz Cafe on Sunday 10th April 2011, where Bilal performed his latest live act. Bilal Sayeed Oliver, better known by his stage name Bilal, is an American neo soul, jazz singer-songwriter and musician, who is also a member of the loose collective, the Soulquarians. In 2001, he released his debut album 1st Born Second, which featured contributions from the Soulquarians as well as high profile producers such as Dr. Dre. The album, while critically lauded, failed to achieve any significant mainstream success, and received limited promotion (although the single "Soul Sista" became fairly popular on late night alternative radio). Despite this, Bilal managed to gain a sizable following and high attendance at his live shows,as well as much acclaim and respect from his peers, many whom noted his range and ability to sing in a freeform style, and his classically trained falsetto. We asked fans about his current album "Airtight Revenge", their favourite tracks, their love for his music and their highlights of the show. Were YOU there?
