This is a vintage Sansui 2000-X AM/FM Tuner / receiver from the late 1960's early 1970's. I also have the RARE original packing boxes and Sansui Styrofoam inserts and plastic cover. It is in near MINT condition. All lights work and it receives both AM and FM Channels great.

The Sansui TU-S77AMX was one of the few tuners designed to receive all four of the AM Stereo systems that were used in the 1980s, before the FCC finally decided to make Motorola C-Quam the single standard for AM Stereo broadcasting in 1993 (which Canada already did in 1988, and Australia in 1985). And unlike the popular Sony SRF-A100 and SRF-A1 battery powered AM Stereo radios, Sansui went a step further by designing their own custom circuitry to automatically detect and switch between the four different systems (Motorola, Kahn, Harris, and Magnavox), based on the different pilot tone frequency each one used. Sansui also used a synchronous detector, which provided the cleanest reception of Harris AM Stereo, and reduces distortion on mono AM signals as well. Unfortunately, their implementation of it causes the audio to mute when the signal falls below a certain level, making this tuner unsuitable for "DXing" and receiving weak signals.

Demonstration of the SE-9's motorized fader capability. Rather than having each fader motorized, this unit adjusts the faders one at a time, presumably to save on costs. It's surprisingly quick and the unit is very lightweight which would have saved Sansui a considerable amount on shipping costs I guess.

Last night I decided to pull my old Sansui AU-101 Solid State Stereo (Integrated) Amplifier out of the closet, clean the dust off it and hook it up. I bought this little amp at a antique shop about 4 years ago because it was cheap and in really nice condition but never really used it since! The Sansui AU-101 came out in 1973 and is rated at a whopping 15 Watts RMS per channel. It lacks a built in radio tuner but this makes for a simple design that's compact for the time period. Sansui was a fairly high end brand name at the time and the amplifier is made in Japan. But at only 15 Watts per channel my expectations weren't exactly high. Boy was I in for a pleasant surprise. This little guy sounds great on my 6 ohm Infinity Reference 2-way bookshelf speakers. Listening to Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger for anyone wondering. Ryan Adams is a singer/songwriter who plays guitar, piano, harmonica, bass guitar, drums, banjo and mandolin. He has had many solo albums released over the past decade along with a band called the cardinals and was the frontman of another band called Whiskeytown. He has an amazing voice both in the studio and live and I highly recommend checking him out. He's mainly known for his alternative country sound but has also touched upon alternative rock, heavy rock and even punk so you can find a wide variety of his music.

Definitely the most complex tuner I've ever seen. This may even be a pre-production model, because part of the circuitry was hand-soldered onto a small piece of perf-board.

There's several issues that are pretty easy to fix. It looks great for it's age. It is the heaviest of the 1970s beasts I have. The problem reported to me when I got it was no audio on the right channel. It appears the circuit trace is corroded. Parts of the trace has lifted off the board, so this should remedy that issue. I found a saw blade hot glued to the chassis for some reason. I'm not sure why it was there, but it wasn't glued too well and fell off. That was removed. It looked as if someone was messing around in this receiver. The saw blade confirmed that suspicion. Then the tuning capacitors (there's two, one for MW and the other for FM) are misaligned, so the tuner isn't receiving stations in the proper place on the indicator. Also, the sprockets are dirty. That could be why tuning is hanging in some spots. Other than a slight bend here and there, it looks great. The sound is rather loud, but it doesn't do too well with the Bose 201s. It seems the receiver is passing all of the frequencies, even those the speakers cannot reproduce well. That really ruins available headroom as it amplifies everything. I'll have to connect larger speakers to this receiver. The Bose 201s just might be too small for this receiver even though it can handle most of its output. I believe the saw blade was put in to tighten the dial cord so it doesn't hang. Sometimes it's easier for most people to repair something the lazy way. The dial cord is loose causing the tuning to hang in certain <b>...</b>
