I'm getting a lot of questions about putting the pick on the string, and here is a disclaimer: heavy metal players who play with tons of gain (aka distortion) MUST put their right hand on the strings to silence them, otherwise SQUEAL! All that aside, plugging your guitar in to your XBox 's USB "guitar preamp" provides little to no distortion, so beginners playing their first song may not HEAR extra ringing from unplayed strings (let's not get into COMPRESSION settings, etc...) So I may have jumped the gun on diving straight into muting unplayed strings, but since this is a technique tutorial, meant to build solid habits from the beginning, I thought it relevant to cover right hand muting techniques.
