Video of mad Canada riots: Vancouver fans run amok, set cars on fire
Angry, drunken revellers ran wild on Wednesday night after the Vancouver Canucks' 4-0 loss to Boston in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, setting cars and garbage cans ablaze, smashing windows, showering giant TV screens with beer bottles and dancing atop overturned vehicles. Later, looters smashed windows and ran inside department stores. There were no immediate indications of injuries, although images were shown on television of at least one woman mopping blood from her forehead. Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson praised the police and firefighters and asked people to stay away from the central downtown area. Tear gas mingled with the stench of acrid smoke and stale beer as riot police, truncheons drawn, moved in to quell the violence, pushing crowds away from the burning cars. Later, police cars also were set on fire.

Turkey's football championship final ended in a mass riot, as hundreds of angry supporters of Istanbul side Fenerbahçe reacted to their team's goal-less draw. After the game, Fenerbahçe fans stormed the pitch as well as throwing flares and plastic chairs. Police had to protect players with their riot shields as they fled to the locker rooms at Fenerbahçe's Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. The violence continued outside the stadium with Fenerbahçe fans throwing stones at police, turning over trash bins and smashing shop windows. Two police cars were turned over and torched. Small pockets of unrest remain active, according to Scotland Yard. It began as a peaceful protest demanding justice over the death of a 29-year-old man who was shot by police last Thursday. But things turned ugly when demonstrators began attacking police and setting fire to cars and buildings. The violence then spread to a neighbouring district.

Riots erupt in Montreal over tuition hikes
On Friday, student protesters confronted police in Montreal, Canada. Riot police used stun grenades, pepper spray and batons to beat student protesters in the city' downtown. Egypt soccer riot video: Over 70 dead at Port Said stadium
A riot in the Egyptian city of Port Said has left 74 dead and at least 248 wounded after football fans stormed the pitch before engaging in running battles. The country has announced three days of mourning. The majority of the victims died from suffocation and head injuries, health ministry officials said. Riot police violently disperse Occupy DC with batons
National Park Service police began slowly dismantling the Occupy DC encampment at McPherson Square on K Street early Saturday morning. Over the course of several hours, cops asked protesters to leave while authorities in hazmat suits combed the park and removed tents. Despite protesters insisting that the temporary structures were in compliance with the latest regulations imposed on the demonstrators, the cops continued to clear out the park throughout the course of the day. With only a small section of McPherson still spared by late afternoon, authorities eventually moved in and used force to clear the rest of the park. Protesters, passersby and journalists alike were assaulted as cops clad in riot gear stormed into the crowd and attacked anyone on the scene. Here cops are showing forcing a group of people out of the park with plastic shields and batons, only for them to fall into the mud and be crammed into a fence that prevented them from easily vacating the premises. Several arrests were reported, including one photojournalist, and many others were injured in the raid, including one RT cameraman.

Demonstrators break though a barrier as provincial police officers stand by outside the Quebec Liberal Party meeting in Victoriaville, Que., on Friday, May 4, 2012 Riot police at a Quebec Liberal Party convention used tear gas against hundreds of protesters who descended on the scene Friday evening in Victoriaville. Though it's believed that the Jean Charest Liberals moved their annual gathering to Victoriaville to avoid students in urban centres, Friday's event quickly took a turn for the worse when demonstrators faced off against police. The Canadian Press reported that some protesters beat up a provincial police officer, while riot police responded with chemical irritants and stun grenades. The protesters have been raging against proposed tuition hikes in the province, which would see the cost of post-secondary education go up by $1625 over several years. Dozens of busses carrying protesters came to Victoriaville from urban centres like Montreal and Quebec City. Victoriaville is about 160 kilometres northeast of Montreal. The student protest began more than 80 days ago, and student groups have demanded that the Charest government back away from the proposed hike. CTV Montreal reporter Laura Casella was caught in the middle of the mayhem and filed a short report. "Of course my eyes are burning a little bit right now," she said. LA riots: 20 years later, not much has changed
It has been 20 years since one of the deadliest and costliest urban uprisings in American history. Many parts of Los Angeles have been rebuilt since the 1992 riots, but believe it or not, there are some parts of the city that have been unable to fully recover over the past two decades. The six days of violence ended with 53 deaths and more than $1 billion in damage, but it was much more than an angry reaction to the Rodney King verdict. Read this article: www.abc.net.au 26 January 2012: 'Amnesia Day'. WTF happened? People gathered in front of Old Parliament House to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy. The peaceful day was suddenly interrupted when someone announced that Tony Abbott was speaking to the press only meters away from the site. (It is important to know that, that very morning, the mainstream media (eg. Sky News) had reported that Abbott had made a provocative statement to the press - that the Embassy should be removed - which predictably caused anger among the Embassy crowd. As it later turned out, the media had distorted Abbot's actual words, which were: "...I think a lot has changed since then and I think it probably is time to move on from that". The events that followed can be traced back to this sub-standard and incompetent bit of shitty journalism. Whichever way you look at it, Abbott's statement was ill-chosen - given the significance of the day - implying as it did that the Embassy no longer served a vital purpose and that Aboriginal people should get over the past, accept a token apology, and "move on". Nevertheless, if Abbott's actual words had been reported correctly, the Embassy crowd might not have reacted with such anger. Instead, the Embassy crowd rushed to confront the Leader of the Opposition about his inflammatory statement. Within minutes, they had grown and surrounded the glass-walled restaurant, chanting/banging on the windows, disrupting the <b>...</b>
