Montreal students occupy University of Quebec

the video courtesy MontrealManif www.youtube.com The Quebec government announced it would suspend the current semester for many college and university students after around one hundred protesters marched through the hallways of the Université du Québec in Montreal Wednesday morning expressing their anger over the rise of the tution fees. The striking students forced the cancellation of some classes. Some protesters broke into the classrooms and grabbed the students by an arm telling them to get out. None of the protesters reportedly were carrying guns, neither anyone has been arrested. The several weeks long stand-off has created considerable social disorder. On Strike: Quebec Students Boycott Classes For 12 Weeks To Protest Proposed Tuition Hikes

DemocracyNow.org - For the past three months, students across the Canadian province of Quebec have waged an unprecedented strike against rising tuition. On Friday, more than 100 students were arrested in Victoriaville. One protester reportedly lost an eye after being shot by a police projectile. The future of the strike is now up in the air. Over the weekend, the government proposed an offer to end the strike, but student leaders say they are refusing to recommend the deal to student protesters who will vote on the offer on 150 campuses over the next three days. Quebec students protest university-fee rise

Tens of thousands of students in the Canadian province of Quebec have been protesting over plans to raise university fees. Until now, they have been paying just over $2000 a year, the lowest in the country. For seven weeks, there have been class boycotts, demonstrations and occasional angry confrontations with police. The students now plan to target Quebec's unpopular government. With an election expected next year, the students are threatening to use their votes to keep tuition fees low. Measles Outbreak in Quebec

There have been over 750 cases of measles in Quebec this year and the government is launching a vaccination camapign. For those of you who do not want to have your kids vaccinate, remember that vaccination is NOT mandatory in Quebec and you don't even need an exemption form for school if you refuse the shots. As parents, we are all concerned about our kids' health and I feel that if the government wants to prevent the spread of measles, they should do more than vaccinate the kids and keep the unvaccinated at home, since it has been shown that measles outbreaks can occur even in highly vaccinated populations. There are also, of course, concerns over the safety of the vaccines, including vaccine contamination and the materials used to make the vaccines. for more informatioin on vaccine rights and exemptions in your area, visit vaclib.org http Vaccine contamination: www.fearoftheinvisible.com MMR contamination: www.fearoftheinvisible.com links coming

Parc de la Chute-Montmorency The Montmorency Falls (Chute Montmorency) are a large waterfall on the Montmorency River in Quebec, Canada. The falls are located on the boundary between the borough of Beauport, Quebec City, and Boischatel, about 12 km from the heart of old Quebec City. The area surrounding the falls is protected within the Montmorency Falls Park (Parc de la Chute-Montmorency). The falls, at 84 meters high, (and 150 feet wide) are the highest in the province of Quebec and 30 m (98 feet) higher than Niagara Falls. The basin at the foot of the falls is 17 m (56 feet) deep. The falls are at the mouth of the Montmorency River where it drops over the cliff shore into the Saint Lawrence River, opposite the western end of the Île d'Orleans. The falls were given this name in 1613 by Samuel de Champlain. He named them in honour of Henri II, duc de Montmorency, who served as viceroy of New France from 1620 until 1625. There are staircases that allow visitors to view the falls from several different perspectives. A suspension bridge over the crest of falls provides access to both sides of the park as well as a spectacular view. There is also an aerial tram (Funitel) that carries passengers between the base and the top of the falls. In the summer the park hosts an international fireworks competition with the falls as a backdrop. The remnants of earthen forts built by General Wolfe are located in the eastern portion of the park. They were constructed in 1759. The Falls ...

Riot between Students and Police , Rock and Tear Gas Out at Quebec Canada May 4, 2012

Demonstrators break though a barrier as provincial police officers stand by outside the Quebec Liberal Party meeting in Victoriaville, Que., on Friday, May 4, 2012 Riot police at a Quebec Liberal Party convention used tear gas against hundreds of protesters who descended on the scene Friday evening in Victoriaville. Though it's believed that the Jean Charest Liberals moved their annual gathering to Victoriaville to avoid students in urban centres, Friday's event quickly took a turn for the worse when demonstrators faced off against police. The Canadian Press reported that some protesters beat up a provincial police officer, while riot police responded with chemical irritants and stun grenades. The protesters have been raging against proposed tuition hikes in the province, which would see the cost of post-secondary education go up by $1625 over several years. Dozens of busses carrying protesters came to Victoriaville from urban centres like Montreal and Quebec City. Victoriaville is about 160 kilometres northeast of Montreal. The student protest began more than 80 days ago, and student groups have demanded that the Charest government back away from the proposed hike. CTV Montreal reporter Laura Casella was caught in the middle of the mayhem and filed a short report. "Of course my eyes are burning a little bit right now," she said. "The riot police are here behind me. They've launched pepper spray and tear gas into the crowd. Things took a turn for the worse very quickly ...

Three Series of Arrests: Solidarity with Striking Students of Québec, NYC

May 22, 2012: an ongoing student strike, involving hundreds of thousands of university students in Québec, reached its 100th day. In New York, hundreds of students, teachers, and Occupy Wall Street participants marched in solidarity with the students of Québec. The march was peaceful with very few arrests. Here are some of the arrests: I: First Arrest. A protestor is apprehended. A tug-of-war ensues, as a group of protestors attempt to rescue their comrade from arrest. This leads an NYPD officer to pull out and swing his baton at the crowd. II: Longest Arrest. A young man is tackled by several NYPD officers to the ground. It takes multiple officers several minutes to complete the arrest. Meanwhile, NYPD are distracted by some sort of object that flies through the air and lands near them. The tense situation is only diffused when a commanding officer (white shirt) intervenes. III: Counter-Terrorism Officer Makes Arrests. A large man in an "NYPD Counter-Terrorism" uniform was seen throughout the evening's march. As the demonstration grew, he took command, pointing at the people he wanted arrested, and even making some dramatic arrests himself. What is seen in this video is the NYPD taking over the sidewalk to cut our march in half. A commanding officer (white shirt) appears to announce that the sidewalk is "temporarily closed." Then the Counter-Terrorism Officer is seen barking out orders, even telling the white-shirted commanding officers what to do. In the first arrest ...
