Smith and Paice join forces in this DVD. Included is their performance at the launch of the London Drum Company on June 21, 2004, as well as interviews, their soundcheck, and details of their kit set-ups for the performance. Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith unites with one of his idols-Ian Paice, in this concert celebrating the startup of the London Drum Company. Having played for various legendary acts including Deep Purple, Whitesnake, and Gary Moore among others, Paice is a true force when it comes to rock style drumming. Performing on June 21, 2004, Smith and Paice take the stage in a show that highlights their collaborative and solo abilities. Viewers will also get a backstage glimpse at both musicians through a live soundcheck and interviews in which they discuss how they set up their drum sets for a concert.

The quality is not very rich and out of focus, but it' sa very unique event, so I thought I'd share it anyway. Sorry, that I couldn't do better! Paice, Ashton and Lord was a British rhythm and blues, funk-soul, rock band founded in 1977, after the break-up of the British band Deep Purple in 1976. Ian Paice and Jon Lord, Deep Purple's drummer and keyboardist, joined Tony Ashton, a British keyboardist and singer, for this project; the band was completed with Bernie Marsden on guitar and Paul Martinez on bass. Lord had joined Ashton previously to record the album The First Of The Big Bands in 1974. There was a BBC Radio Live in Concert recording of this event that year. Ashton also collaborated on Lord's Gemini Suite project in 1971, in which he sang lead vocals on the first song. He took part in more of Lord's solo works and also in some of Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover's solo projects. One album was recorded by Paice, Ashton & Lord, and also a video in which the band were shown recording their first album in the studio recording sessions. Called "Lifespan", they explained what were the inspirations and meanings of some of the songs. A follow-up was planned but never released. The first album was Malice in Wonderland which was released in 1977. It was re-released on CD in 2001 by Purple Records, and now includes thirty minutes of demos from the unreleased second album. A live DVD was released in 2006. Despite some critical appreciation, the album was not a great success. After Ashton broke his leg falling off a stage, the group was wound up. Lord, Marsden and later Paice enlisted in David Coverdale's Whitesnake <b>...</b>

Paice Ashton Lord - Ghost Story, from album "Malice in Wonderland" (1976) For over eight years Deep Purple were entertaining huge concert arenas around the world as well as selling more albums than anyone else between 1973 and 1974. But with bands long history of personnel changes culminating in the departure of first Ritchie Blackmore and then his successor, with the tragic death soon after of Tommy Bolin. To that point the band had little more to prove and with various members of the band having wanting to pursue other avenues a split was inevitable. It was at that point that two major contributors of Deep Purple realised that they actually liked playing in a band together and decided to form a new band and obvious choice was with their old friend Tony Ashton who they had worked with on various other project previously, the last one being Last of the Big Bands by Ashton and Lord. This album was to set the style of music that would form their new band Paice, Ashton and Lord. (Ian and Jon approached me with idea of forming a band, in fact Jon had approached me before and I had,nt liked the idea much because I could,nt see myself as a front man. I also thought that with Jon and me both being on keyboard players wed get in each others way. Id be dropped out of playing with bands. There were plenty of sessions to do. I was also into doing commercials and jingles for TV which is interesting work. Its also quite lucrative as well, I was comfortable and I suppose I was in a bit <b>...</b>

This is an unreleased video filmed during a rehearsal or a soundcheck of Paice Ashton Lord doing Ghost Story, the opening number of the classic 1976 album Malice In Wonderland. In case you are a DP fan and are not aware of this album, PAL were made up of Tony Ashton, Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Bernie Marsden (founding member of Whitesnake) and Paul Martinez.
