SILVER APPLES Oscillations & Seagreen Serenades

Silver Apples are a psychedelic electronic music duo from New York City composed of Simeon Coxe III, who performs as Simeon, on a primitive synthesizer of his own devising (also named The Simeon), and until his death in 2005, drummer Danny Taylor. The group was active between 1967 and 1969, before reforming in the mid 1990s. They were one of the first groups to employ electronic music techniques extensively within a rock idiom, and their minimalistic style, with its pulsing, driving beat and frequently discordant modality, anticipated not only the experimental electronic music and krautrock of the 1970s, but underground dance music and indie rock of the 1990s as well.

Guitar Oscillations Captured with iPhone 4

I just happened upon this trick when testing what it was like filming from inside my guitar. *Note this effect is due to the rolling shutter, which is non-representative of how strings actually vibrate. Tips: • You must have the strings brightly backlit to get the camera to capture at such a high frame rate (pure conjecture). You can see how the effect fades when the buildings come into view. • Use a pencil *This was used with the front facing camera, try the back camera, it may capture better! (tried it, it didn't look as good for me) There is a heated discussion with *real science* over at reddit www.reddit.com *UPDATE here is the 'tracklist' :14 - "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton :56 - "Signe" by Eric Clapton 2:57 - Snippet of "Tomorrow Land" by John Scofield - the rest is just noodling around. Also, I never thought I'd be known as a 'youtube guitarist', I just play for fun- I'm actually a motion graphics designer/animator. Check out www.justkyle.com follow me on twitter! http

THE OSCILLATION 'Lament' All Time Low Productions 2011 Directed by Julian Hand Amidst undulating waves of liquified celluloid, heavens electrified and sea of grain, lies a forgotten Oceanic shrine. Microtubules - Electric Oscillating Structures in Living Cells (Google Workshop on Quantum Biology)

Google Workshop on Quantum Biology Microtubules -- Electric Oscillating Structures in Living Cells Presented by Jiří Pokorný October 22, 2010 ABSTRACT Fröhlich formulated hypothesis of coherent electromagnetic activity in biological systems. The full featured Fröhlich's system is described by two complementary nonlinear models: the one with spectral energy channeling and energy condensation in the lowest frequency mode, the other with creation of a ferroelectric state and a potential valley for oscillation amplitudes. Electric and electromagnetic oscillations in various biological systems were found in a wide frequency range from acoustic to visible and UV bands but their internal physical mechanisms are rather unclear. We proved that electromagnetic oscillations at 8 MHz are generated by microtubules in cells (Pokorný et al., Electro- Magnetobiol. 20, 2001, 371). As the greatest activity of living cells is exhibited in the M phase the measurements were performed on synchronous cells in this phase. Cold-sensitive β tubulin mutans tub2-401 and tub2-406 of S. cerevisiae were used. Two types of sensors were designed. A sensor with two evaporated gold strips 400 μm wide with a gap 8 μm between them was prepared on alumina substrate. The other sensor with 7 pairs of gold strips 10 μm wide and gaps from 2 to 10 μm was prepared on silicon substrate. Synchronization was achieved by warming the cell suspension to permissive temperature. Control experiments with empty sensor <b>...</b>

Intense Sun Guitar Oscillations captured by iPad & iPhone

I discovered playing guitar in direct sunlight enables an iPad/iPhone camera to capture incredibly wild external guitar oscillations on the OUTSIDE of the guitar. it is amazing how simple this is and why no one else has done it before with Apple devices, at least what I can see. This means anyone with an Apple camera (and access to the sun) can make a cool stringed instrument video! The direct sun causes the camera to film at a very fast shutter speed. The "rolling shutter" effect occurs when the camera is perpendicular to the strings. We used an iPad 2 and iPhone 4. There a lot of videos of inside the guitar, but this is OUTSIDE the guitar. You can film a cool video of the guitarist playing the guitar with oscillating strings. Why is this new? My theory why no one has posted anything like this with an Apple camera before is: 1. Guitarists do not like to perform in the sun. 2. It is unusual hold a camera vertical to film a guitarist. Plus the effect is more obvious on a super large baritone 12-string guitar when plucked with fingerpicks. Hope you enjoy the video! Watch in full-screen HD to see the oscillations! Cheers, Mike Salovich mikesalovich.com Note The guitar is an extra large baritone 12-string made by Brian Applegate. The music is my composition "Prairie Ambience." You can download it at... itunes.apple.com Please check out my other guitar videos (more coming!) on the worldbeatguitar channel.

Recorded electronic frequency oscillations

I am able to hear the following transmissions 24 hours a day. As I layed down for the evening in a quiet room, I decided to place my recorder right next to me on my pillow and see if it was sensitive enough to capture some of this phenomenon. My recording is what it was able to pick up. Note -you will need to turn up the volume to hear it well. Of interest: The microwave auditory phenomenon, or the microwave hearing effect, pertains to the hearing of short pulses of modulated microwave radiation at high peak power by humans and laboratory animals. Anecdotal and journalistic reports of the hearing of microwave pulses persisted throughout the 1940s; and 1950s. The first scientific report of the phenomenon appeared in 1961. The effect has been observed for RF exposures across a wide range of frequencies (450-3000 MHz). It can arise, for example, at an incident energy-density threshold of 400 mJ/m2 for a single 10-microsecond-wide pulse of 2450 MHz microwave energy, incident on the head of a human subject. And it has been shown to occur at an SAR threshold of 1.6 kW/kg for a single 10-microsecond-wide pulse of 2450 MHz microwave energy, impinging on the head. A single microwave pulse can be perceived as an acoustic click or knocking sound, and a train of microwave pulses to the head can be sensed as an audible tune, with a pitch corresponding to the pulse-repetition rate (a buzz or chirp). Flame makes open tubes oscillate.

A propane torch inside the end of a tube can make it oscillate. See also my website at www.sparkbangbuzz.com for more interesting experiments and details. It is interesting to note that in the case of the copper tube, it only oscillates when the torch tip is relatively cool. Oscillations are not produced after the metal tip of the torch has heated up.

North Atlantic Oscillation - Drawing Maps from Memory (from Grappling Hooks)

Promo for Drawing Maps from Memory, taken from debut album, Grappling Hooks, on Kscope. After a busy and exciting 2009, releasing their debut EP and playing shows with the likes of Porcupine Tree, Explosions in the Sky and Cymbals Eat Guitars, North Atlantic Oscillations debut album, Grappling Hooks, is released on March 22nd on Kscope. The band have been described as prog-pop and electro-rock, but really they just make music. The music has soaring harmonies and loud guitars and dreamy synths and heavy drums and strange effects and unexpected changes-of-mind. NAO are the Scottish based trio of Sam Healy (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards, synths, sax, percussion), Ben Martin (drums, percussion, programming) and Bill Walsh (bass, synth bass, vocals). They describe themselves as playing their instruments within a computerised wall of sound. Grappling Hooks is a subtle yet powerful kaleidoscope of purring electronics, atmospheric layers and hook-laden melodies. Preceded by single Drawing Maps from Memory, out on March 8th, the album proves that the praise that was heaped upon Callsigns EP was entirely justified. It sounds nothing like you expect it to. But then thats exactly what makes North Atlantic Oscillation so beguiling, intriguing and fascinating theres a surprise around every corner. Are you ready? Their bright, friendly electronics and Brian Wilson harmonies suggest Scotland may have the beginnings of its own Animal Collective. Ones to watch. Metro Delightfully shiny <b>...</b>

Oscillations of binary Black Holes - Bob Wagoner (SETI Talks)

SETI Talks Archive: seti.org Dr. Wagoner will survey the QPOs (quasi-periodic oscillations) seen in the luminosity fluctuation power spectra of compact objects accreting from a binary companion star. There is little understanding of the different frequency relationships in these systems. Dr. Wagoner will focus on the theory and observations of black holes, and compare the predictions of their spin via diskoseismolgy with those from two other methods.

Chase plane view of F-8 DFBW pilot-induced oscillations

This 38 second movie clip shows pilot-induced oscillations of the F-8 DFBW aircraft taken from a chase plane. From 1972 to 1985 the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center conducted flight research with an F-8C employing the first digital fly-by-wire flight control system without a mechanical back up. The decision to replace all mechanical control linkages to rudder, ailerons, and other flight control surfaces was made for two reasons. First, it forced the research engineers to focus on the technology and issues that were truly critical for a production fly-by-wire aircraft. Secondly, it would give industry the confidence it needed to apply the technology--confidence it would not have had if the experimental system relied on a mechanical back up.

iPhone guitar strings oscillating acoustic Van Adams instrumental song, cool rolling shutter effects

When i 1st saw @justkylevids iPhone guitar strings youtube, it had only 800 views. I knew it was going viral, and now has 2 million views in 3 weeks! How does this happen? He 'discovered' the iPhone camera rolling shutter effect on guitar strings (best filmed inside acoustic guitar facing out to bright sky). Guitar strings oscillating is a sensation on youtube now. Guitarists and music fans like the look of music moving strings. Like other youtubers I set out to make my own version of string oscillations. 3 weeks later I have a new technique down. I used CamLock app ($3) to lock the exposure and white balance on the appropriate levels for capturing the silhouette strings vibrating on video inside the guitar. This way the cam does not auto readjust after you have dropped it inside the guitar. Van Adams, my neighbor, plays "Daniel's Song" new original acoustic instrumental. We hung out and recorded this for Fayetteville Roots Festival, and I incorporated the string action into the video poster for the Roots Fest. Click next link for the best YouTube Playlist explaining rolling shutter, cmos camera effect on propellers and string instrument vibrations appearing to bend and roll as-if waves of visual sound (albeit not true to soundwave physics, more a property of digital camera shutter line scanning): www.youtube.com Video by Dgold with iPhone 4 rolling shutter effect, front-facing camera, CamLock app, exposure locked, white balance locked. file name: iphone-guitar-strings <b>...</b>

This visualization of the Universe as it condenses around fluctuations in the density of dark and ordinary matter is a result from a collaboration between Argonne National Laboratory and the San Diego Supercomputer Center/University of California, San Diego. It is part of an effort to establish end-to-end workflows that leverage high-performance computing and visualization resources, high-speed networks, and advanced displays spread across the country. These workflows include automatically creating visualizations from simulation data as it is generated, and enabling researchers to remotely view and control these visualizations on ultra high-resolution displays. This simulation follows the growth of density perturbations in both gas and dark matter components in a volume 1 billion light years on a side beginning shortly after the Big Bang and evolved to near the present age of the universe. It calculates the gravitational clumping of intergalactic gas and dark matter modeled using a computational grid of 8 billion cells and 8 billion dark matter particles. The simulation uses a computational grid of 2048^3 cells and took over 1000000 CPU hours to complete. The visualization shows the density value, whose range spans over 6 orders of magnitude (6.78e-33 g/cm^3 to 1.43e-26 g/cm^3). credit: Mark Hereld, Argonne National Laboratory; Joseph A. North Atlantic Oscillation - Drawing Maps From Memory

Drawing Maps from Memory, taken from debut album, Grappling Hooks, on Kscope. Metro Delightfully shiny tunes Music <b>...</b>

iPad & iPhone captures EXTERNAL Guitar Oscillations

How to make a sizzling guitar video with your iPad or iPhone. I figured out how to see oscillations outside the guitar using an iPad or iPhone. The key was to focus intense light at the guitar so the camera automagically increased the shutter speed. I don't believe anyone can manually set an IOS camera. I added more and more light until I was successful with 2600 watts coming from two sets of industrial lights. It was extremely hot. The other key is to orient the iPad and iPhone vertically so the rolling shutter effect happens. If you hold the iPad or iPhone wrong, you will not see the oscillations no matter how much light you have. So the oscillating guitar video technique is: Cool String Oscillations = Fast Shutter Speed (lots of light) + Rolling Shutter (orient the camera perpendicular to the strings) I made the video clip with one camera angle - there a lot of angles you can use. Probably the most dramatic is straight on. Plus there are probably better light sources that would amplify the oscillations. You need to be careful to avoid light glare or to burn your self or ruin your guitar. I used an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4, and I bet this works with other iPhones. Note: one of my friends had a Samsung Android and we could not get it to capture any oscillations. Thanks to Michael Boekmann and Marc Spielman for their ideas and assistance.
