I'm your host Andrea Rene with the latest gaming news. An Oklahoma lawmaker introduced a bill that would impose a tax on games deemed "violent." The money raised from the new tax would go towards the battle against childhood obesity and bullying. . The bill is dubbed HB 2699 and add a 1% tax to all videos games deemed violent, meaning specifically, "a video or computer game that has received a rating from the Entertainment Software Ratings Board of Teen, Mature, or Adult Only." . Are they seriously trying to tell me that they want to classify games like Starcraft 2, Dance Central 2, and Zumba Fitness 2 as VIOLENT?! This is crazy! Or maybe State Representative William Fourkiller is crazy! He is the guy that introduced the bill. . There are so many reasons why this bill is wrong but let's start with the idea that taxing violent games assumes said games are "bad," and what about other forms of entertainment? I don't see them proposing this tax on violent books, movies, or music. . If passed this bill will go into law this summer. I think we can all agree that supporting funds that fight against childhood obesity and bullying is a good thing, but the method is all wrong. The message this lawmaker is sending is wrong.
