Nepal's Road 2011 Comedians Rhod Gilbert and Greg Davies attempt to drive through the mountainous, landlocked nation of Nepal. Starting from the chaotic border with India, they travel across the country's most important roads, from highways that maintain its cities to freshly-dug dirt tracks that connect to isolated communities. There are uplifting stories throughout, but it is a journey that is fraught with danger. Besides having one of the world's highest rates of road traffic accidents, floods and landslides are an everyday occurrence, blocking traffic for days on end and claiming dozens of lives every month. After days of swerving overloaded buses, dodging trucks and clinging to crumbling mountain roads, disaster strikes within sight of their final destination.

Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked sovereign state located in South Asia. It is located in the Himalayas and bordered to the north by the People's Republic of China, and to the south, east, and west by the Republic of India. With an area of 147181 square kilometres (56827 sq mi) and a population of approximately 30 million, Nepal is the world's 93rd largest country by land mass and the 41st most populous country. Kathmandu is the nation's capital and the country's largest metropolis. Nepal has a rich geography. The mountainous north has eight of the world's ten tallest mountains, including the highest point on Earth, Mount Everest, called Sagarmatha in Nepali. It contains more than 240 peaks over 20000 ft (6096 m) above sea level. The fertile and humid south is heavily urbanized. By some measures, Hinduism is practised by a larger majority of people in Nepal than in any other nation. Buddhism, though a minority faith in the country, is linked historically with Nepal. Many Nepali do not distinguish between Hinduism and Buddhism and follow both religious traditions. There are 3 different buddhist traditions: Himalayan Buddhism, Buddhism of Kathmandu Valley (mostly Mahayana and Vajrayana), and also the Theravada Buddhism. A monarchy throughout most of its history, Nepal was ruled by the Shah dynasty of kings from 1768, when Prithvi Narayan Shah unified its many small kingdoms. However, a decade-long Civil War by the Communist Party of ...

In Nepal, the Hindu caste system is a rigid hierarchy that gives social status based on people's lineage and work. But Ram Chandra Malik, a street sweeper who is one of the the Dalits, or "untouchables", the lowest class, is struggling to break the deep prejudices and stigmas his community faces. Against the odds, Malik is challenging the system politically and was even a candidate in the last parliamentary elections. In a special three-part series called "Breaking The Bonds", Al Jazeera takes a look at people challenging stereotypes, to create a better future for themselves. Al Jazeera's Subina Shrestha reports from Siraha district, Nepal.

Enduring legacy of Sir Edmund Hillary To see more go to www.youtube.com Follow us on Facebook (goo.gl or Twitter (www.twitter.com Sir Edmund Hillary and his companions were the first climbers to reach the top of Everest. This is an enthralling exploration of one man's undeniable stamp on history and the future of Nepal. A group of mountaineering legends have come together in the village of Khumjung, high in the Himalayas, to honour the legacy of Sir Edmund Hillary - a man who devoted much of his life to helping others through his Himalayan Trust. Many regard the Trust to be his greatest achievement: "it was like a calling", his son Peter says."I just think he got good heart", Dawa, an ex-student of the Khumjung school says. From schools to hospitals to providing fresh water, Hillary's contribution to this area knew no bounds. "I think he just said, this is the thing that I should do. So he did it", Dawa says gratefully and proudly. His son Peter and his stepmother, Lady June ,the custodian of Sir Hillary's Trust, differ in their views of best retaining Hillary's legacy. As his supporters try to protect the trust from the growing rift, this beautiful report offers a moving testament to a giant of a man. Documentary of a Nepalese organization called FoST, which stands for "Foundation for Sustainable Technologies". The organization FoST is providing low-cost, low-tech, easily-applicable and locally built sustainable technologies for improving the quality of life of poor rural communities and to protect the fragile environment of Nepal. Nepal is a beautiful country and is famous for it's cultural treasures, but Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and has many problems. FoST has been developing a wide selection of products such as parabolic solar cookers, solar ovens, briquette burners, solar dryers, solar water pasteurizers, water purification systems and heat retain boxes to fight burning issues such as poverty, pollution, deforestation, water-borne and smoke-borne diseases. They are also working to further empower women by providing training and employment opportunities through projects designed to create micro-enterprises in sustainable technology. The documentary was made by a Dutch family donating their time and skills to increase awareness for the founder of FoST Sanu Kaji Shrestha and all the dedicated volunteers working at FoST. THE SHORTEST MAN OF WORLD !! CHANDRA BAHADUR DANGI FROM NEPAL IS SMALLEST ADULT OF ALL TIME....!!! Guinness World Records confirm that Chandra Bahadur Dangi from Nepal is the world's new Shortest Living Man, measuring 54.6cm (21.5 in). Chandra is 5.3 cm shorter than Junrey Balawing of the Philippines, who measures 59.9cm (23.5 in) and was crowned world's shortest man on his 18th birthday last June. The confirmed measurement also makes Chandra the shortest adult human to ever have their height verified by Guinness World Records, beating a benchmark set by Gul Mohammed, (New Delhi, India, 1957-1997) who measured 57 cm (22.5 in). Upon the invitation of Mr Chandra, Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief, Craig Glenday, flew from London to Kathmandu to perform an official measurement at the CIWEC Clinic Travel Medicine Center in Lainchaur. In accordance with Guinness World Records guidelines, Chandra was measured three times in 24 hours and his height confirmed to be 54.6 cm (21.5 in). Chandra claims to be 72 years of age and weighs 14.5kg. He has spent his entire life in the remote Nepalese mountain village of Rhimkholi, about 250 miles west of Kathmandu. He lives there with his five brothers (all of an average height) and makes his living weaving traditional Nepalese garments. Chandra's home is so remote that it wasn't until recently that he gained attention; a forest contractor cutting timber in the village met him and informed local media. Until now, Chandra's stature has ...

Guinness World Records officials are to travel to Nepal to measure a 72-year-old claiming to be the world's shortest man. Chandra Bahadur Dangi is said to be 56 centimetres (22 inches) tall and weighs 12 kilos (26 pounds).
