The original line-up at their awesome peak. Billy Cobham is particularly on fire. To get a taste of what MO were like live; slap on some cans and max the volume until your ears want to bleed :) Recorded at Bananafish Garden NY 1973

HIGH QUALITY AVAILABLE. A "proper" video, IYKWIM. "You Know You Know" - i can't say much more, really. And it's the only known footage (along with MOTS before it) from the broadcast. if you're new to "my work", I have a dozen or so 'original' John McLaughlin related videos up here - ranging from 1963 to 2008 (check the Playlists). Then there's my OTHER work... My home: www.myspace.com

This is the nearest we'll ever get to a full-blown Mahavishnu Orchestra reunion, I'm afraid. Not that it isn't possible - everybody's still alive (though I harbour a secret wish to substitute for Rick Laird, if it otherwise happens). This is from the end of 2006. Interestingly enough, an album of Billy Cobham with the HR Big Band had been released earlier in the year - for which John McLaughlin strangely wrote the liner notes. Not that it helped facilitate anything. I managed to scape enough video material together to cover the proceedings, so I hope you all enjoy this. It's certainly leaps and bounds ahead of the quite atrocious (in my opinion), but long term Mahavishnu Project.

The best quality MO footage I've ever seen. Shame JM's solo is missing. Well that was my original discription but the crystal like clarity has been lost in the uploading. Oh well, call it fairly good resolution then.

I dont own this material, all the rights goes to it's respective parts.

The start of the concert and it gets better and better. Keep watching.

Mahavishnu Orchestra JOHN MCLAUGHLIN Eternity's Breath pts. 1 & 2, Visions of the Emerald Beyond, John McLaughlin - guitars, vocals, Steve Kindler - violin, vocals, Jean-Luc Ponty - violin, vocals, electric violin, baritone violin, Ralphe Armstrong -bass guitar, vocals, contrabass, Philip Hirschi - cello, Bob Knapp - flute, trumpet, flugelhorn, vocals, wind, Narada Michael Walden - percussion, drums, vocals, clavinet, Gayle Moran - keyboards, vocals, Carol Shive - vocals, Russell Tubbs - alto and soprano sax, "Even though it is not as consistently convincing as Mahavishnu's first two albums, this fifth, 1975 outing nonetheless provides plenty of the same listening rewards--urgent, inexorably forceful jazz-rock fusion with an intense interactivity among the players. Jean-Luc Ponty provides the fresh interest. Always most convincing when employed, rather than in charge, here he revels in the open spaces and blissed prompting that McLaughlin's celestial-run formula provides. The album was one of a few later Mahavishnu recordings that announced that the revolutionary band's mission was near completion, and perhaps already played out. McLaughlin's playing soars at some points, but it was time for him to leave the capsule, and settle into a new phase: his extraordinary Shakti collaborations." --Peter Monaghan

Syracuse university 1972. Quality isn't great but it's quite rare and definitely worth seeing. BTW. this concert is the only one in existence (as far as I'm aware) in which John is still using the guitar sound of 'the inner mounting flame' Album.

Syracuse University 1972. Most videos of this tune I've come across have Johns solo missing, so I felt this needed posting even though it sounds a bit like it was recorded down a telephone.

You Know, You Know (Cover / Improv) from The Mahavishnu Orchestra's Inner Mounting Flame album - 1971. I know I don't come close to doing what John McLaughlin and those guys did, but I'm just an average musician trying to learn some of their slower, more approachable tunes like this. I hope you still appreciate it. Mahavishnu is the greatest! Video composited in Final Cut Express; Audio recorded in GarageBand on my Mac computer w/ MOTU audio interface. I played the following instruments in this video: Guitar - Fender 72 Thinline Telecaster Keyboard - Nord Electro 2 Bass - Ibanez Mikro - fretless bass conversion by me (The drums were just loops and midi sequencing) I also created the artwork by scanning pages out of my sketchbook and layering them in photoshop. Awakening by The Mahavishnu Orchestra From the Album The Inner Mounting Flame. Amazing, jazzy song. Great instrumentality. Probably my favorite on the album. I don't own this song nor do I credit myself as its creator.

Verifiably the Mahavishnu Orchestra's earliest live recording - my favorite one, as well. Why? It comes from a radio broadcast by WAER-FM - live from the Jabberwocky Nightclub, Syracuse NY, on April 11 1971. And, without even having their first album released, the setlist spans the entire MO#1 career (which I think is significant - in terms of its break-up): - Miles Beyond; - Dream; - Vital Transformation; - Dawn; - Sanctuary (NOT in the video); and - Awakening. I've cut the whole concert down to 10 minutes, remixed the audio and added video from a later show. If, on the other hand, you want to hear the MO's LAST 1970s recording (the scary "Best Guitar Playing Ever"), go here... www.youtube.com This video was made to celebrate me scoring tickets for the McLaughlin Corea Quintet at the Sydney Opera House in February, 2009 - plus completion of a DVD-ROM with my "100 best" 2006-8 videos. And... well, it's 9/11 again. On that same morning (Australian-time), I was featured as a musician in a national magazine (The Bulletin). I'd hoped to use the "success" to start playing guitar in America. In the end, I don't think anyone even SAW the magazine, in the rush for the morning papers. And things weren't the same after that. Even for me - I'd been standing at the top of the WTC in September of 2000! I seem have a "September" thing - 1999: Sydney Morning Herald's "Best Personal Site On The Web", 2003: re-scheduled Yes concert (I wrote a MySpace blog about it once). There are NO ...
