I've always wanted to do animation. This is the first project I started in After Effects. I drew everything by hand and colored it in the computer. I picked my favorite song, because I knew I would have to listen to it on repeat.

PLEASE SUPPORT STEPHIN MERRITT, THE MAGNETIC FIELDS, AND MERGE RECORDS BY BUYING THE ALBUM "Get Lost" www.amazon.com If I live through the night I could be all right it'll make a good song or something I've been trying to give myself reasons to live but I really can't think of one thing I drive around I walk around in circles 'cause I've got no sense of direction I guess I've got no sense at all All the umbrellas in London couldn't stop this rain And all the dope in New York couldn't kill this pain And all the money in Tokyo couldn't make me stay All the umbrellas in London couldn't stop this rain. I don't cry anymore I walk out the door and I usually keep on walking I may sit in a bar where the cocktails are but I really don't feel like talking I ride around and let the darkness fall 'cause I've got a sense of perfection and nothing else makes sense at all.

1981) Celebrated as the European electronic music community's premier ambassador, composer JeanMichel Jarre elevated the synthesizer to new peaks of popularity during the 1970s, in the process emerging as an international superstar renowned for his dazzling concert spectacles. The son of the famed film composer Maurice Jarre, he was born August 24, 1948, in Lyon, France, and began studying piano at the age of five. Abandoning classical music as a youth, Jarre became enamored of jazz before forming a rock band called Mystere IV; in 1968, he became a pupil of the musique concrète pioneer Pierre Schaeffer, joining Groupe de Recherches Musicales. His early experiments in electroacoustic music yielded the 1971 single "La Cage"; the fulllength Deserted Palace followed a year later. Jarre's early works were largely unsuccessful, and gave little indication of the work to follow. As he struggled to find his own voice, he wrote for a variety of singers, including Françoise Hardy, and also composed for films. Seeking to push electronic music away from its minimalist foundations as well as the formal abstractions of its most experimental practitioners, he slowly developed the orchestrated melodicism of his 1977 breakthrough effort, Oxygène, an enormous commercial hit that reached the number two spot on the UK pop charts. The followup, 1978's Equinoxe, was also a smash, and a year later Jarre held the first in a series of massive openair concerts at the Place de la Concorde in Paris ...

I designed and animated this video for a class assignment instructed by Gail Anderson. The assignment permitted the use of b/w color, Adobe fonts and a song. I chose "The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side" by the Magnetic Fields. Keep in mind the original size of this video is 1.65 GB and is reduced to 20% for YouTube and then stretched back out for preview. If you would like to see at original size please contact me!

"Papa Was A Rodeo" by The Magnetic Fields from the album 69 Love Songs (1999) I combined the beautiful Super 8 footage from the below link and the album version of the Magnetic Fields song, and was pleasantly surprised at how well they work together. www.youtube.com LYRICS: I like your twisted point of view, Mike I like your questioning eyebrows You've made it pretty clear what you like It's only fair to tell you now that I leave early in the morning and I won't be back till next year I see that kiss-me pucker forming but maybe you should plug it with a beer, 'cause Papa was a rodeo Mama was a rock'n'roll band I could play guitar and rope a steer before I learned to stand Home was anywhere with diesel gas Love was a trucker's hand Never stuck around long enough for a one-night stand Before you kiss me you should know Papa was a rodeo The light reflecting off the mirror ball looks like a thousand swirling eyes They make me think I shouldn't be here at all You know, every minute someone dies What are we doing in this dive bar? How can you live in a place like this? Why don't you just get into my car And I'll take you away I'll take that kiss now, but Papa was a rodeo Mama was a rock'n'roll band I could play guitar and rope a steer before I learned to stand Home was anywhere with diesel gas Love was a trucker's hand Never stuck around long enough for a one-night stand Before you kiss me you should know Papa was a rodeo And now it's 55 years later We've had the romance of the ...

"Take Ecstasy With Me", by The Magnetic Fields. You used to slide down the carpeted stairs or down the bannister you stuttered like a kaleidoscope 'cause you knew too many words you used to make ginger bread houses we used to have taffy pulls Take ecstasy with me, baby take ecstasy with me. You had a black snowmobile we drove out under the northern lights a vodka bottle gave you those raccoon eyes we got beat up just for holding hands Take ecstasy with me, baby take ecstasy with me.

Natural magnetic fields are revealed as chaotic, ever-changing geometries as scientists from NASA's Space Sciences Laboratory excitedly describe their discoveries. The secret lives of invisible magnetic fields are revealed as chaotic, ever-changing geometries. All action takes place around NASA's Space Sciences Laboratory, UC Berkeley, to recordings of space scientists describing their discoveries. Actual VLF audio recordings control the evolution of the fields as they delve into our inaudible surroundings, revealing recurrent 'whistlers' produced by fleeting electrons.
