A case study on singers and their larynx position when singing or belting. Singers in this video: Barbra Streisand, Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Charice Pempengco, Squire Parsons, Whitney Houston, Nina, Juan Diego Flores, Shanice Wilson, David Phelps, Celine Dion, Leona Lewis, Vanessa Amorosi, Beyonce, Shirley Bassey, Miley Cyrus, Jessica Simpson, Steve Perry, Sarah Geronimo and Fergie. The video underlines the importance of keeping a neutral larynx position and show you why you shouldn't push or pull your larynx. Table of Contents: 1. Introduction 2. Neutral Larynx 3. Pulling the larynx up (High Larynx) 4. Pushing the larynx down 5. Analysing clips 6. Test The purpose of this video is not to bash singers but to educate people so they don't sing with bad techniques just because their favorite singer might somehow use that technique before. Of course, you want to achieve the best production without ruining your own voice. The position of larynx while singing does affect your vocal health and your production. Again, the video is criticizing the singers' technique, not the singers themselves! It also aims to help people differentiate between a good high note and a bad high note because a lot of people are easily impressed by a high note just because it is loud. PS. In the video, when I said "vocal chords" I mean "vocal cords", it's a typo :) Enjoy! Comment, Like, Favorite, Share & Subscribe!

Laryngeal movements are contributed by intact innervations, normal muscular activities, and the functioning articulating synovial joints. The true vocal folds will come closer to each ether (adduct) when we speak (phonate) and this function is usually tested clinically by asking the patient to say "eeeeee". It also adducts preceding to coughs and upon sustained forceful adduction during valsalva manouevre. This function is very useful in gaining good subglottic, intrathoracic, and intrabdominal pressure in activities such as coughing, defaecation, and heavy lifting. Forced adduction with intermittent leak of air produces grunting sounds. At its extreme, patients may present with variable degree of dysphonia (change in voice quality) or even to the extent of aphonia (no voice at all) as occurs in some hyperfunctional voice disorder like muscle tension dysphonia (MTD). All the intrinsic muscles are innervated by the recurrent laryngeal nerves with the exception of the cricothyroid muscle which is supplied by the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve. Both mentioned nerves are branches of vagus ie, the Xth. cranial nerve. All the intrinsic muscles of the vocal folds are adductors with the exception of the posterior cricoarytenoid muscles which has an abduction (movement away from the centre) function. This muscle activity is tested clinically by asking the patient to sniff or by taking a good deep breath which will demonstrate its brisk opening movements. At rest <b>...</b>

www.musiciano.net - The larynx (voice box) can either be moved up or down via the attachments it has on top and on the bottom. A high larynx is not desirable when singing because when the larynx is high, the throat is mostly closed (which is not a good environment for sound to travel freely through). A lower larynx will familiarize you with an open throat so that you can start to find the right balance for efficient sound production.

This is a transnasal endoscopic laryngeal video stroboscopic examination. We utilize small video recording equipment to visualize the voice box (larynx), the base of the tongue, and vocal cords. During this exam we pay very close attention to the vocal cords and their movement during this examination. This exam is narrated. This was performed by the physicians at Northwest ENT and Allergy Associates, with offices in Marietta, Woodstock, and Canton, Georgia

Inadequate airway management is the frequent cause of preventable death in trauma. The LMA Unique® Single Use offers significant advantages over the Facemask or Bag Valve Mask and is invaluable in situations where tracheal intubation is not possible due to a lack of skill and training, lack of Rapid Sequence Induction Drugs, after failed attempts or in recognised cases that would prove difficult to intubate. The LMA Unique® is a safe and effective alternative airway device for use by Doctors, Paramedics and other properly trained emergency responders in both CPR and Trauma in the Pre-hospital environment.
