I've been asked by a few people "what do you prefer, a 1911 or a Glock?". Initially I didn't feel it was a fair comparison because each gun has it's pros and cons and the two platforms are quite different. But at the end of the day, a gun is a gun, so I figured I'd add my 2 cents on this often discussed comparison (obviously based on the popularity of the 2 platforms). Based on almost identical specs (in terms of size and caliber) I chose to compare 2 of my .45's: Kimber Ultra Carry TLE ll [TLE=Tactical Law Enforcement] Glock 30 Tough decision to make between 2 beasts...fortunately, I own them BOTH, so no need to choose between them (under normal, every-day circumstances). IMO: One would have to specify the reason for having to choose between the two. Having to choose your favorite gun to take to the range, or having to choose one gun to bet your life on. HUGE difference in those two scenarios. The majority of the time my Glock 30 is my designated concealed carry, though I also cc one of my other Kimbers.

If anyone has any questions, comments, or even corrections please let me know! Please see EP 5.1 for the field stripping procedure on this weapon. It's something everyone should see before considering purchasing one of these custom 1911 designs. Gear - As an EDC personal defense item this works very well. It's small and easy to conceal and it's a caliber that I prefer for personal defense. It shoots very accurately and the recoil is amazingly manageable for a gun it's size. All of these make for a very capable and concealable every day carry weapon. Gadget - This is not a toy and nothing on it classifies as a gadget. It's built for personal defense only and I focus entirely on that aspect for these types of weapons. Getaway - Give the broad range of available weapons. If conceal ability wasn't an important aspect for the survival situation there were be a great number of different weapons I would rather have with me. It would make a fine backup weapon if that was necessary but wouldn't be something I'd think of first unless size was the utmost importance.

I also replaced the recoil spring on the Kimber with a Wolff XP spring for 4" barrel 1911s. I'm hoping that these upgrades will increase the performance of both weapons. Plus, I can always use a good excuse to go visit my local firing range. In this video, I'm shooting 9mm Luger 115gr rounds through the Beretta M9 and .45 ACP 230gr rounds through the Kimber 1911. I'm pleased to report not a single error or stovepiping with either weapon. I think replacing that recoil spring was the real problem with the Kimber because I used both my magazines, that is, the magazine that I received when I purchased the Kimber used, and the replacement magazine I purchased new, and both performed great.

Cleaning up my weapons makes me feel like I'm harnessing my chi or something. I feel like a relaxed gun girl and like all is well in the world after focusing on cleaning the detailing in machined steel. I feel I was fortunate to get my hands on a nice Kimber SIS Pro 1911 used. So I knew it wasn't going to be in mint condition. During the takedown process, I noticed wear indicators from the slide and corrosion along the barrel. At first, I was worried that I'd need to replace the barrel. However, when I looked at it closer, I realized I might be able to remove at least some of both the barrel scratches and the corrosion with some mag polish. I know that Pete from theARMORYchannel recommends Flitz, but I didn't have any around, so for this video, I used Mother (I've seen other guys recommend this polish, too). I've never tried this before, so I polish cautiously. After a little over an hour of careful hand polishing, I end up with a barrel that looks almost new; it's beautiful. My problem now? I want the guide rail to look as good.
