digitalfilm.tv In this short video blog post, I share a little more information about the Igus DryLin rails system modified to use as a video camera slider. Several weeks ago I posted an unboxing video on YouTube of three different Igus DryLin rail systems for making an inexpensive slider for your camcorder or HDSLR. I took the rail system to a local machinist and had him tap in a mounting hole in each rail so I could attach the rails to a tripod. I also had a mounting plate added with a 3 inch bolt to allow mounting a video head to the rail. The ends of the rails were tapped and a bolt and washer added to prevent the cradle from sliding off the rails. This iPhone 4 video (don't expect high production values here) shows the end results. I just want to quickly show you my newly machined Igus sliders. You will see a couple of sample clips I took with the Canon 5D Mark II mounted to the Igus DryLin W16-A rail system. I mounted a Nikkor 55mm macro lenses to the Canon 5D Mark II. Bottom line: These are clearly a great option for the budget conscious filmmaker.

My time consuming effort to motorize the Igus slider. I apologize in advance for not answering every question promptly like,... "what motor is that" and "what is the model number of the pulleys?" I will attempt to answer all questions though. I do not manufacture these parts to motorize your Igus slider, but I did want to share the design in case anyone wanted to take ideas they see here and incorporate them into your slider modification. The PCS1000 Hague Pro Cam-Slide incorporates the latest Igus Hybrid Roller Bearings running on an Igus WS-16-60 Linear Rail. It is this combination, of roller within the sleeve, that creates easy smooth camera movements far superior to standard sleeve bearings used by other suppliers. The Pro Cam-Slide is quick and simple to set up, it can be mounted to any sturdy tripod or placed on a table, or the floor for low shots. The carriage is supplied with both 1/4" and 3/8" threaded screws to attach a video head or ball head to the carriage, or you can attach your camera directly to the carriage. Once the camera is mounted to the carriage you can create super smooth tracking shots as you slide the carriage down the rail. On the side of the carriage is a carriage lock which will hold it in a set position, or the lock can be used to add drag to the carriage if required. The rail is 1metre long and can be supported in various ways, there are 3/8" and 1/4" threaded mounting holes in the centre and at each end.
