The Ian Gillan version of Gethsemane from the original 1970 concept album of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice rock opera: Jesus Christ Superstar. Due to controversy over the musical's content, Rice and Webber were forced to make a concept album before they could even dream of turning this into a stage musical. Original cast members included Ian Gillan (Jesus), Murray Head (Judas), as well as Yvonne Elliman (Mary Magdalene) and Barry Dennen (Pilate) who would go on to reprise their roles in the 1973 film version starring Ted Neeley (Jesus) and Carl Anderson (Judas). "Jesus Christ Superstar" follows the last days of Christ as seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. It is not meant in any way to be a statement regarding religious opinions, and never claims to be historically accurate or true to its source material. I believe Ian Gillan to be the finest voice to ever come out of the 20th century. His vocal range is phenomenal, and I believe it was a full octave over and above anything Freddy Mercury had to offer. I do not consider this song to be a Christian song at all. The lyrics are Biblically unsound, nonetheless, I have my reasons for uploading it to my channel. It is, after all, a masterpiece of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Original version of this all time musical classic. Deep Purple's Ian Gillan played the role of Jesus and his interpretation of this immortal cut defined all the upcoming ones. When this work was recorded, Deep Purple weas on the top of the musical world, so Ian was unable to join the plays in Broadway, nor film the 1973 movie. Ted Neeley replaced him, he did awesome and was the known face of this Jesus, but that was his only achievement. Ian Gillan is part of rock history and his name is written with golden letters on the bible of rock.

IAN GILLAN BAND - Child In Time
Child In Time is an album by British jazz-rock fusion band Ian Gillan Band, released in 1976. The album took its title from the Deep Purple song "Child in Time", a version of which appears on side two of the LP. This was Ian Gillan's first release after leaving Deep Purple, and also features his former Deep Purple colleague Roger Glover. Although not credited with playing on the album, Dave Wintour (bass player), Andy Steele (drummer) and Bernie Holland (guitarist), are listed among the songs' composers. In fact, Gillan had been recording demo tapes with non-Deep Purple material as early as 1972, and much of the Child In Time material was taken from the period September 1972 to April 1974. The album was recorded at Musicland Studios, Munich between December 1975 and January 1976 and mixed at Mountain Studio in Montreux. One single was released from the album, "You Make Me Feel So Good"/"Shame" in the UK in July 1976, on the Oyster label. Although Ian Gillan Band went on to produce material more suited to their jazz-rock label, this first album has much more of a harder rhythm and blues style.

This one is a unique piece. It's from the only filmed show of Black Sabbath with Ian Gillan as their singer ! As many know Ian made his "party" as he calls it in the year of 1983, which turned out to be one of many positive shocks in Rock history. Just a 3 years before, we had Black Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio stepping instead of Ozzy. And now we had Purple Sabbath with Ian.... fabulous! I saw that there isn't a footage of this song on youtube. This song is one of my favorite Sabbath songs ever ! This song first appeared on Sabbath's "Snowblind" or more famously called Vol.4 album. Believe or not somewhere in some basement or in some dirty old studio lies, full video footage of Sabbath performing at California Jam in 1974. Where they amongst all the great songs, performed this particular one called simple Supernaut.... By my opinion Sabbath should have named the album Supernaut instead of Vol.4.. Cheeersss

Deep Purple Ian Gillan singing Kentucky Woman 1969 Live in Montreux Casino, Switzerland. Oct 4th 1969 It says Kentucky Woman is the encore. Nah?? Bloody hell, it really IS Kentucky Woman! Close to the original album version, the vocals here are particularly overloaded, and instrumentally Jon is all over his keyboard as everyone else pounds away relentlessly. Ritchie's solo is an especially fine example of guitar strangulation, not quite the bizarrely off-kilter affair of the studio take, but sticking to the spirit. Jon's keyboard solo has, I'm quite sure, been used by him to introduce Lazy on their more recent tours, where it comes from I cannot claim to know, but the musical familiarity doesn't last long as his hands slide ever onward up the keys to give the familiar swell before we're back into the final verse and chorus. Fun, interesting and historically important, the first (and probably last) known take of this song featuring Roger and Ian G. Kentucky Woman is a great encore.
