Follow us on Facebook, www.facebook.com In this video we present two of the treasures of La Gomera Island, Silbo language and Garajonay. Silbo Language is included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and it's a complex ancient telecommunication system to be able to deliver messages a great distances avoiding walking the deep valley of La Gomera, used by aboriginal tribes before the arrival of Spaniards and adapted these days to any language. The initial sounds in the video mean "Bienvenidos a la Gomera" (in Spanish) and the second sentence corresponds with the English translation "Welcome to La Gomera" in Silbo. Garajonay, on the other hand, is a National Park, one of the four present in the Canary Islands. It preserves an ancient kind of humid forest that was common in the Mediterranean basin millions of years ago, the Laurisilva, a natural history living museum.

The upper reaches of this densely wooded region are almost permanently shrouded in clouds and mist, and as a result are covered in lush and diverse vegetation. It´s an example of how the people from La Gomera (Canary Islands) used to comunicate by whistling. In this restaurant situated in Agulo, you can se a demonstartion of the Old Whistling Language of La Gomera, put on UNESCOS world heritage list in 1980. Actually this whistling language could be heard up till 3 km away.

Het één na kleinste eiland van de Canarische eiland is Isla Redonda, het Ronde Eiland, La Gomera. Hier komt men om vooral van de rust en de natuur te genieten. Wandelen moet wel een "must"zijn, veel toeristische attracties zijn er niet. La Gomera is bijna 400km2 groot en bestaat vooral uit berglandschap. Met het vochtige noorden en droge zuiden is dit een eiland waar voor iedereen wat wils is. De temperaturen: minimum temperatuur 17C in de winter en 27C in de zomer. Vanaf Gran Canaria en Tenerife is La Gomera rechtstreeks per vliegtuig te bereiken. La Gomera is ook per boot te bereiken. Er zijn bootverbindingen van Tenerife, La Palma en El Hiero. De hoofdstad van La Gomera is San Sebastián de la Gomera, hier wonen ongeveer 2.500 van de 17.000 bewoners van dit eiland. Bijna alle bewoners van La Gomera zijn katholiek en dankzij dit geloof zijn er vele kerkjes ter ere van de Heilige Maagd Maria gebouwd, zoals bijvoorbeeld De Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Maria Hemelvaartkerk). Een voorname plek op La Gomera is het nationaal park Garajonay. Dit is een van de oudste natuurlijke bossen ter wereld. Het park beslaat zo'n 40 km2 waar dankzij de weersomstandigheden 450 verschillende soorten planten en bomen groeien, zals laurierbomen, vetplanten, cactussen en vele soorten varens. Ook vind men vele dieren in dit park zoals natuurlijk gekko's, hagedissen en verschillende (zang-)vogels. Terecht staat dit park op de werelderfgoed lijst van Unesco.
