Download the track free here - soundcloud.com I wanted to do something a little different with a cover of Rolling in the Deep, since there's a lot of them out there, and mostly with acoustic guitar or keeping the same kind of arrangement as the original. So, I opted to do something that's very garage-rock feel, and I kept it very simple - piano, bass guitar with heaps of fuzz on it, and acoustic drums with a single room mic that's compressed all to hell (so yes, they're supposed to sound like that). This was all shot in my roommates' garage, who have about a zillion things lying everywhere, so while it's a mess, it's fairly photogenic. This was all shot with natural light or one light in the garage. We used a single light for one shot and that was it. Shot on a Canon t2i and a Panasonic Lumix GH1 with a variety of lenses. I first heard this 45 back in the mid 90's on a mix tape that was dubbed from one of the old Pebbles LP compilations. Even in tinny fidelity It's been a favorite of mine since then. I have searched online for years, yet found little information about this group.. Because of it's high catalog number, some record collectors and garage rock fans have written that this 45 was recorded in 1972, but it's actually from 1968. It was the only Sire 45 to be distributed by Roulette Records. It might have been this now-legendary record company's first released 45. It took me over a decade to find my own copy of this gem. Either I was quickly outbidded or the price was way too high. I finally scored a copy for $20 last year on E-bay (the seller had listed it with the other side "Loving Kind Of Way"). This dub is right from my 45, and unlike those garage comps, you're hearing it at the correct speed and hopefully in much better fidelity. Female garage-rock anthem! SHE was a garage band of teen girls from Sacramento. They were first known as the Hairem, and then SHE. After a couple years of build-up and some personnel changes, they nailed it perfect with the single, "Outta Reach". With its shuddering lust and snotty intensity it is proto-punk incarnate!
