But on Na Na Ni, the debut album from experimental sextet Fredrik, the band from Malmo, Sweden shows that its country's musical output is capable of offering up even more.

First official video from Fredrik's third album Flora. Inspired by early motion picture magicians like Stan Brakhage, Harry Smith, Isidore Isou and Viking Eggeling, it features an abstract take on Palm Shadowplay using "a vintage British overhead projector, an off-white canvas, scissors, paper, 8 hands and a fishtank full of flammable liquids". The colorations are natural and come from the way the lens and materials refract light at various distances, much like a prism. Interview with American jazz singer/songwriter and musician Melody Gardot, on Skavlan Melody Gardot (born February 2, 1985) in New Jersey) is an American jazz singer, writer and musician in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was disabled at 19 after being struck by a car while riding her bicycle and began writing music after using music to aid her recovery. She has been influenced by such blues and jazz artists as Janis Joplin, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and George Gershwin as well as Latin music artists such as Stan Getz and Caetano Veloso. Fredrik's music is simply gorgeous and hypnotic. It's also very much a studio album, so we were curious to see how they would pull it off as a Tiny Desk Concert. Lindfelt manned a snare and maraca and triggered odd sounds with a little keyboard, while Hultin strummed guitar and sang. They even offered a stripped-down version of "Black Fur," that soaring opener to Na Na Ni. It all came together beautifully. Discover more at www.npr.org
