Discovery Communications Content copyright. Top secret Iran hostage rescue mission aircraft YMC-130H were three modified Lockheed Hercules Aircraft for Top Secret "Operation Credible Sport", for second Iran hostage crisis rescue attempt. One of the measures considered for a second hostage rescue attempt in Iran was a project to develop a "Super STOL" aircraft, to be flown by Combat Talon crews, that would use a soccer stadium near the US Embassy as an improvised landing field. Called Credible Sport, the project acquired three C-130H transports from an airlift unit in late August 1980, one as a test bed and two for the mission, and modified them on an accelerated basis. Designated as the XFC-130H, the aircraft were modified by the installation of 30 rockets in five sets: eight firing forward to stop the aircraft, eight downward to brake its descent rate, eight rearward for takeoff assist, four mounted on the wings to stabilize them during takeoff transition, and two at the rear of the tail to prevent it from striking the ground because of over-rotation. Other STOL features included a dorsal and two ventral fins on the rear fuselage, double-slotted flaps and extended ailerons, a new radome, a tailhook for landing aboard an aircraft carrier, and Combat Talon avionics, including a TF/TA radar, a defensive countermeasures suite, and a Doppler radar/GPS tie-in to the aircraft's inertial navigation system. Of the three aircraft, only one received full modification. The program ...

Icelandic TV station video (language is Icelandic) during Airbus A380 crosswind landing certification tests in Keflavik with 40 to 50 knot crosswinds. Technique is to fly crabbed down to flare height then "kick" (gently) the rudder to align the nose. Some crab at touchdown is acceptable and will be cancelled as the main gear also align the bird with the runway. Sounds easy dosn't it? Notice the flight control laws only allow the lower rudder until the aircraft is on the ground, then both upper and lower rudders are controlled by the autopilot during AutoLand operations or by the rudder pedals. This logic helps prevent unwanted roll from the upper rudder due to its placement being so far away from the longitudinal axis of the aircraft.

This is the flight test of the TFR8 FASST-compatible receiver from FrSky of China. Lance, the pilot flying the Parkzone P51D RC model plane said he noticed no difference between the Chinese product and the genuine Futaba receiver. At times during the flight, the model was at the very limit of visibility, as can be seen when I zoom back from maximum.. Despite the rather poor installation, the receiver seems to work very well. Read the full review at www.rcmodelreviews.com and discuss the product in the RCModelReviews forums.

The great Bob Hoover flies the North American F-100 Super Sabre in its flight test program. The SuperSabre was the first jet capable of Mach 1 speeds in level flight. Bob Hoover crashed in an F-100 due to hydraulic failure and received a broken back in the crash. When he got out of the hospital he climbed in another F-100 and completed his part of the flight test. Bob Hoover is truly an amazing pilot and an amazing man. Original video by Skyfire Productions. flybynightvideos.com

This animation depicts the proposed test flight of the Orion spacecraft in 2014. During the test, which is called Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1), Orion will launch from Cape Canaveral, Fla., perform two orbits, reaching an altitude higher than any achieved by a spacecraft intended for human use since 1973, and then will re-enter and land in the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of the United States.

A Japanese concept of ekranoplan or WIG ship. It is a canard wing concept of wing in surface effect ship (WISES). The video shows a figure eight flight of radio controlled model. The size of the model is 7.2m in length. Usually remote operation of a flying model is usually not easy. However our ship shows smooth take off, circular flight and alighting on water. For more detail of the concept, target of the technology, please contact akimoto@sys.tu-tokyo.ac.jp

Here is video from the Hobby King EPP FPV model using the 200mW 900MHz video system and camera for RC model aircraft. You will note the camera is of poor quality but range is good - apart from a couple of dropouts at about 1-1.3Kms from the launch point. The flight was terminated when the model flew out of RC range at 1.8Kms, an indication that the 900MHz transmitter is creating noise that is affecting the 2.4GHz RC receiver. By comparison, I have been able to fly the FoxTech 200mW 5.8GHz video system to in excess of 2Kms with no loss of the RC link, using exactly the same RC transmitter/receiver combination. I have also noticed that the 900MHz transmitter sometimes upsets the GPS connected to the FY21AP OSD and RTL system. I may have to use a low-pass filter to eliminate these undesirable harmonics and noise. A full review of the HK 200mW and 1500mW video systems will be available on the RCModelReviews website shortly. A promotion video from China Flight Test Establishment. It has test flight clips of the latest J-10 fighters. update 1: It seems Janes Defense has noticed the same video and did story about it. www.janes.com China unveils weapon developments By Robert Hewson A video produced to celebrate the recent achievements of the China Flight Test Establishment (CFTE) reveals a wealth of evidence for new Chinese weapons programmes and the pace of weapons systems development by the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). The official footage, which has now appeared on the internet, shows an entirely new class of air-to-surface missiles, airborne launch trials of the Kh-31 high-speed anti-radiation missile (ARM) and the PL-12 active radar beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM), heavy air-to-surface loads for the Chengdu J-10 and Shenyang J-11B fighters, plus extensive test and development activity with virtually every front-line combat aircraft in Chinese service. Most intriguing is a new missile design believed to be designated KD-88. A few blurred images of a weapon labelled KD-88 have been seen prior to this but the CFTE film shows two distinct versions being trialled by Xian JH-7A attack aircraft. The missile is roughly 3.5 m long and powered by a small turbojet/turbofan engine with an underslung intake. Two different seeker types are fitted — one appears to be electro-optical (EO, potentially an imaging infrared seeker) while the other is either an active radar seeker ...

A video (shot around what we call "Camp Zero" - the testing area for our art assets) showing the first pass flight model that has a number of flight dynamics still to include and tweak. The Apache interior and exterior is a stand-in, a professional model is forthcoming. But it's enough to give the sensation of flight over the various art assets we're constructing for this combat mission simulator. A highly detailed IHADSS (head up display) has been written, there's enough screenshots and video on the dev-blog covering that. This will be plugged in later. This is in the style of a retro 90's combat sim (such as Jane's Longbow 2) with a few new twists.

The McDonnell Douglas YC-15 Soft Field Ground Operations test card for the YC-15 test program. The YC-15 was the McDonnell Douglas entrant into the US Air Force's Advanced Medium STOL Transport competition. This aircraft then evolved into the sucessful McDonnell Douglas C-17 Globmaster III aircraft of today. The original video in the test program was filmed in 1976. There was no sound track included in the original video I had, so I added a soundtrack.

The Missile Defense Agency is hailing flight test 10 of its Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (Thaad) system in March as a success. This was the first salvo test of the system; two interceptors were launched against one short-range target (boosted from a barge). The results, on the video, show interceptor one colliding with the warhead target while the second interceptor -- launched 12 sec. later -- adjusts to the target scene of debris and picks out a large piece as its target.
