On a technical note The entire video was shot on a Canon 7D, all in 720P, at 60fps (frames per second). I used a couple different Canon lenses to shoot this, they were... Canon 70-200 F/2.8 Canon 100-400 F/4/5.6 Canon 2X III Extender (this makes the lens when it is at 400mm, become 800 mm's. It does loose some quality, but it's not very noticeable.) The entire video was shot all on the North Shore, at Pipeline, and Waimea for the big waves. To get the "super slow motion", after I filmed at 60fps, I through it into the program "After Effects". I used an effect that comes with the program called "Time Warp". This allowed me to make the 60fps, to 1000fps. The way this works is the computer processes/adds frames in between the frames that are already in existence. It took several days for the computer to process the clips into <b>...</b>

I stayed with several amazing families. One of the people we stayed with was a man named Heifara. He runs an awesome boat tour where we went out everyday swimming with the shark, stingray, and everything else the ocean has to offer. This entire film was filmed on the island of Kauai over a 9 day period. The first 3 days were spent hiking the Napali coast, a 11 mile hike along the coast. We did this for 3 days. After this we spent 2 more days exploring the island. I did this with 8 other friends. After the 5 days were up with them, they all flew back to Oahu where everyone was living, and I stayed on the island on my own for 4 more days. I had a rental truck, that's how I got around. I didn't want to spend money on hotels though, so I slept in the truck, in a Walmart parking lot for the other 4 nights. A lot of cars get broken in on the island of Kauai, according to rumors, so that's why I would camp in the parking lots, so I was a lot more exposed if someone tried to break in where I was sleeping That way i wouldn't get robbed, raped, or murdered, ha. At night when I got done filming, I would go into the only Walmart on the island, where they also have a McDonald's, and I would bum off there wi-fi with my ipod touch, and plot my path for the next day, then I would head out before the break of dawn every morning, and I would get back after sunset to do it all over again. He spent the day filming it with me, running his camera (Canon T3i). This video would not have happened if it wasn't for my friends Danielle Jensen and Tyce Jensen. They are the original creators of the modified trikes that were rode in the video. They even had a speedometer attached to the bikes they were riding, and they clocked in going 55mph down the road we filmed at, passing cars in the process. We shot this in a place called Powder Mountain Utah. As far as the sound design for this video, we actually didn't use a SINGLE piece of audio from the actual day of filming. For all the bike sounds and shoe noises, we recorded those the next day in a parking lot. I had my friends Scott Clarke and Ryan Faulkner help me record the audio for it. We recorded the sounds by getting a broken bike and throwing that against the cement for bike crash sounds. We then towed me behind a truck with my feet dragging against the cement to capture the same noises that were made the day of filming with the shoes skidding against the concrete. I got brought on by my friend Aaron Nelson who helped organize it. I have been working with the Mozo family to tell Jon's story, in which the documentary is about. Jon is a widely respected ocean/surf photographer known for not only his awesome photography work, but for the impact he left on all those he came around. That is what attracted me about the project to begin with, how many people loved this man because of his amazing impact on everyone he came in contact with. He died tragically at Pipeline 6 years ago doing the very thing he loved, photographing the waves. I had the opportunity to shoot 'The Dirty Dash' on June 4th, 2011 at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah. I spent about 7 hours shooting that day, and it took 2 hours to clean my clothes and camera afterward!. It was a fun, muddy day. It's not a competitive race; everyone is there to have fun, and they made the most of it! The did a 'Piglet Run' for the kids about halfway through the day, and the children were a blast to film as they made their way through the course. Devin Graham put out a call for DSLR videographers to cover the long course. He was super gracious and fun to work with, and put a great edit together with video from about 10 cameras, which you can watch here: www.youtube.com The music is by Matt Pace. I asked him if he would put together a soundtrack, and he returned a full song with lyrics and everything in just a week! I recommend him if you're looking for film scoring work or audio production. I flew to the island of Molokai, it's a Hawaiian island next to Oahu. The canoe race itself is across a huge ocean channel, and it took around 5 hours for these athletes to canoe from one island to the next. I was blown away by the fact that they didn't stop at all, in the least bit. For each canoe racer, a motor boat had to follow next to them just to make sure they didn't get lost in the ocean, and someone from the motor boat would have to jump in the ocean and throw the canoe racers a water bottle as they got thirsty, since they had no time to stop. The race was the World Champion solo canoe race, so people from all over the world came to be a part of it. It was an awesome experience to experience it all. As far as the technical details go It was all filmed on a Canon 5D Mark II. Shot with a Canon 16-35mm F/2.8 L series Lens And a Canon 70-200mm F/2.8 L series Lens To get the smooth shots where it looks like we are "flying", I used a Glidecam HD 4000. Here is a <b>...</b>
