May 2005 With speed cameras becoming more sophisticated, few people are willing to put their foot down. But there is one place where you can still let rip -- the great salt deserts of Australia. "I guess I've always wanted to go fast. That's just something that I love," states John Lynch. He's come to the Great Salt Desert to try and crack the 300 mph - 480 kph - barrier. The first ever KOH style race combining rock crawling with desert racing held in Powell Wyoming during the High Desert 100 event. Drivers raced around a 2.5 mile desert "baja" style race track and completed three obstacle sections per lap and completed 5 laps to finish. Obstacle sections included a man-made section of cement pieces and huge tires, a natural rock ledge, and a ravine and rock section coming off a hill. The baja track included long straights, whoop sections, small jumps, and tight S-turns. The weather added another challenge this year with rain and mud to lessen traction too. Only three racers started the race and one broke a transmission and one flopped on his side on one obstacle section but was able to be recovered and still finished the race. Scott and Andy McMillin raced the 2011 edition of the BITD Parker 425 race and while racer, Andy McMillin, led the first 300-miles of the race before suffering a crash at speeds over 90 miles per hour. Both driver and co-driver survived the crash with no injuries, however the #31 McMillin Realty Racing race truck suffered damage that would not allow Andy to continue racing. Amiga Racing game released by APC&TCP 2005 for AGA or RTG Equiped Amigas. This didnt run well on my 040/25 bvision system so I dont own this game. Demo updated in 2008 was used to play and it hasnt improved that much. Controls are awful so will never see past the first race ;) Devolpers spent far too much tme on gfx and no time at all making sure the game could even be played.

It is hard to imagine that gliders could comfortably cruise less than 1000 feet above the desert floor at ground speeds often over 140 miles per hour for over 20 miles with nowhere to land in sight! This video shows pilots Bruno Vassel (B4 in an ASW-27B), Tim Taylor (TT in a Ventus 2a) and Dan Wrobel (DW in a Ventus B) flying high performance sailplanes along the small ridge southbound from the Hurricane, Utah airport. Note the completely unlandable terrain both above and below the ridge making for spectacular scenery but scary flying. This was a very fun day of flying! Thanks for watching, Bruno (B4)
