Back in January 2006 Dandie Dinmont Terrier Breeders and enthusiasts from all over the world converged on Coventry, England for a breed crisis meeting called Dandie Dinmont -- from Vulnerable to Viable to discuss the decline in the breeds world wide population and how this could be address in the future to ensure the long term viability of this delightful breed of dog. The event received national publicity and the lovely Emma Massey filmed a short piece for BBC Midlands Today TV. The piece was great fun and Emma took Margaret Russell's lovely mustard dog, Fergus to a Coventry shopping centre to see how many members of the public could identify the breed. The fact that no one could emphasis just one of the problems the breed has to face up to, that of not being a very well known breed like (say) the Westie. This short film also shows what good natured, affectionate, Happy and attractive dogs Dandie Dinmont Terriers are. Dandie Dinmont Terrier: This is Jackson, our very fun loving Dandie Dinmont Terrier puppy dog. This item was filmed when he was about 4 months old. We have given up on buying our pups very expensive toys as they seem happier with old plastic bottles and a tatty rubber chicken. His mother Scarlett loves to play with the rubber chicken (please see one of my other videos posted on YouTube) but Jackson takes it one stage further. He likes to play hockey with it, using the rubber chicken as a tool to hit his other toys around the floor. The first time I saw him hit one of his toys like this I thought it was a fluke, but he just keeps on doing it and it is his favorite game to play. I have never seen another dog play quite like this and I think Jackson will grow up to be a wonderfully eccentric companion and a lot of fun to have about the house. Dandies are I believe one of the only dog breeds with a genuine sense of humor! The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is one of the UK's rarest breeds. They are officially designated by the UK Kennel Club as a "Vulnerable Native Breed" due to their very low numbers. This was filmed back in August 2006 during the build up to the annual Look Alike contest at the big Wag & Bone dog show held in Windsor Great Park, England. Crosby, my faithful Dandie Dinmont Terrier and I had recently received the devastating news that we had been officially banned from entering the Look Alike contest because we just look too much like each other! Our banning received massive publicity and the very nice and good humored orgnisers, (who had banned us as a bit of fun), decided to make Crosby and I the celebrity judges for the event instead! So it had a happy ending after all. The standard of entry was exceptionally high and we had the largest entry of Look Alikes ever at the Wag & Bone show, almost any one of them could have been winners, but in the end we had to make the difficult final choices. We put Buzz the Motorbiking Sheltie and his slightly mad owner in Third place because they had such great attitudes. My second place winner and her Afghan were just so much alike they very nearly won the event, but eventually my final decision, and it was tough, went to Hillary Powell and Millie her rascal of a Welsh Terrier! This short was one of several promotional films made to promote the Animal Planet Channel in Europe and was screened right across Europe and North Africa for over a year and gave great exposure to Crosby my Dandie Dinmont Doppelganger! If anything, I think we are growing even more alike as we both get older, take a look at my profile photo ...

Dandie Dinmont Terrier: First Time in the Garden Cute Dandie Dinmont Terrier Puppies Oh the joy of the big outside world! This video clip was filmed when our litter of 5 male Dandie Dinmont Terrier puppies were allowed in the garden for the first time and they experienced the sheer joy of running and freedom and fresh air for the first time! Dandie Dinmont Terriers are one of the UK's rarest breeds and are officially recognised as a "Vulnerable Native Breed" by the UK Kennel Club due to their low population numbers. A recent breed club survey suggested that their could be as few as 50 breeding females left in the UK. The Dandie is just one of a group of British and Irish dog breeds causing concern because of their low numbers, some of the others include: (2007 Puppy totals in Brackets) Glen of Imaal Terrier (36) Skye Terrier (37) Otterhound (41) Sussex Spaniel (61) Smooth Collie (63) Sealyham Terrier (65) Field Spaniel (67) Welsh Corgi (Cardigan)(68) Irish Red & White Setter (93) Manchester Terrier (113) Dandie Dinmont Terrier (124) Norwich Terrier (128) Lancashire Heeler (146) Irish Water Spaniel (162) Clumber Spaniel (223) To put these numbers in perspective, in 2007 the Kennel Club registered over 45000 Labradors! I did not know if I should call this Video "Shakin' All Over" or "Shake Rattle and Roll" or "Hippy Hippy Shake" or "Shake Your Bon-Bon" or "Shake Your Money Maker" or "Shake Ya Tailfeather", well you get the idea I am sure. Whatever, this is our Jackson, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, ever the comedian and always up for a game, very eccentric and forever inventing new ways to have fun with his toys - as you can see, he drives the other dandies in the house nuts with his antics. I love his spirit, he is always happy and quite affectionate too, In fact a very typical Dandie Dinmont Terrier! Dandies are I believe one of the only dog breeds with a genuine sense of humour! These 12 week old Dandie puppies are exercising in the courtyard. The following names are temporary and the new owners will get to name them. The pepper girl is called Patty, the mustard girl is called Honey, and the mustard boy is called Spike. I am keeping Spike for myself. Spike is the largest of the 3 with the beautiful head and expression .

These 5 puppies are rough-housing with my grandson, Bobby-Scott. They loved to pull his hair.
