Sorry, no sound, just my pointer. And note this is Lasco3 not 2. Named file wrong when I saved it. I wanted to see more time before and after the comet approach to get a better feel for speed and to estimate if it passed the sun or indeed impacted. Note the comet does not bypass the sun as a comet mass, though there is what appears to be a small solar burst that could possibly indicate it passed as a cloud of smaller particles. Upon close observation it nearly seems to disintegrate as it nears the sun. On a separate note regarding comet Elenin, note that it has not yet entered the view of SOHO. When it does it will be just above the Ecliptic plane and after Venus has cleared the field of view. If there is a "brown dwarf" or "rogue planet" big enough to cause serious gravity issues it would be many times the size of Venus appearance in this video. If a comet Elenin would be seen as a small dot similar to this one. It passed Perihelion of the Sun in trajectory and is now heading directly between Earth & Sun on Sept. 28th, then will cross our orbit & head out towards space (if it survived intact). I estimate it will move into view of SOHO (Lasco3) no later than Sept. 21st, 2011

A bright comet headed right towards the Sun and disintegrated (Oct. 2, 2011). It was a sungrazing comet of the type known as a Kreutz sungrazer and a particularly bright one at that. There is not a definitive orbit calculated for it yet, but most sungrazing comets have orbits that take them very close to the Sun without actually quite hitting it. At this stage of the solar cycle, the Sun is producing many mass ejections--in fact there were several earlier in the day--and it probably just happened by chance that one of them was around the same time as the approach of the comet.
