This lady on Inside Edition had a capybara as a pet! I love all rodents (they're the biggest rodents) so my aunt told me it was going to be on...capybaras used to be my favorite animal :) This capybara seems super smart because he knows tricks! It's probably not the smartest idea to have one as a pet though haha a guinea pig is the next closest thing to a capybara and they're wayyyy smaller :PI just wanted to show the world how awesome capybaras are :D Sorry it's kind of shakey at the beginning...I taped it off my TV.

Caplin Rous, a 2-year-old capybara, enjoys a good long scratch. This video show how capybaras puff up their fur when they are happy. It also captures some of his noises. The main noise is "I'm happy but I want something." Our new rabbit, Maple, makes her film debut and is a bit of a pest. Toward the end of the video she climbs on Caplin's back. If you have questions, please read the FACute on www.GiantHamster.com.

For information on pet capybaras, please see my blog at www.GiantHamster.com. In this video 16-month-old Garibaldi Rous is very excited about his walk and actually starts running. Sadly, you can see throughout the video that he has a problem with his hind legs. I have had a vet look at this but we don't know what exactly is wrong, except that he is knock-kneed, and whether anything can be done. The ROUS Foundation is going to fund some investigation of normal hind limb development that may help understand this.

The Santa Barbara Zoo's four new 4-month-old capybaras are now out on exhibit near the courtyard as of Tuesday, March 2, 2010. This adorable litter, consisting of 3 males and 1 female, came to the Santa Barbara Zoo from the Alameda Park Zoo in New Mexico. Capybaras are the world's largest rodent from Central and South America, and can grow up to 4 feet long and 100-150 pounds! Nicknamed "swamp hogs," capybaras are dependent on water and well adapted to it - they even have webbed feet. Capybaras swim and dive freely and can stay submerged underwater for up to five minutes. They also wallow in water to protect skin from hot sun. Like all rodents, capybaras must chew and gnaw to wear down continually growing teeth. They tend to live in groups of about 20 adults.

CAPYBARA visits KCOU 88.1 FM at their humble HQ in Columbia, MO for an afternoon of high fives and music / interviews. Music Director / new best friend Kyle McDonald helps the fellas get set up to broadcast. While they cram into this tiny room and set up drums anywhere they can, we take a sneak peek and introduce the guys as they prepare to take off on tour. www.capybaramusic.com

Capybara is bent on making authentic music in spite of the odds. In early 2009, four lifelong friends slipped away from jobs and leases in Portland, Brooklyn, and Kansas City to form a band in a frozen pueblo in Taos, New Mexico. The result was Try Brother, the group's delicate, introspective debut that initiated a flood of opportunity: signing to The Record Machine, a nod on Spike Jonze's official mixtape for Where the Wild Things Are, an invitation to compose the feature-length soundtrack for Sundance 2010 pick One Too Many Mornings, and the honor of backing legendary cult songwriter Daniel Johnston at the inaugural Middle of the Map festival in Kansas City. With a litany of accomplishments behind them and their eyes (and hearts) set on the future, Capybara is bringing its lush creative process to new heights. On February 7, 2012, Capybara will release its sophomore album, Dave Drusky. It's an accessible and human record -- an intersection of the warm and familiar, and the quirky and unpredictable. The gents of Capybara — Mark Harrison, Jared Horne, Darin Seal, and Joel Wrolstad — craft their art with wit and sunshine, illuminating a sound that's both simple and catchy, yet conceptualized and personal. Wrolstad's lead vocals are brutally honest, while song narratives take gentle turns for the unexpected. Some songs on Dave Drusky ebb and flow, but others linger long after the song -- and album — is over.

While Japan celebrates the season of cherry blossoms, the family of capybaras, the world's largest rodents, at a zoo on the outskirts of Tokyo, have a special reason to celebrate: two new babies. The newborn capybaras, each weighing just 1.5 pounds, could walk and even jump into the water container as soon as they were born last Friday (April 6). Officials of the Ichihara Elephant Kingdom said the babies rose to stardom among the 400 animals from all over the world only a few hours after their birth, attracting hundreds more to the zoo's nearly 1000 weekend visitors. Zoo keeper Ruka Kunitach said the their birth was not only timely for the business but for the health of the babies. "It's a blessing for them to be born in this season of cherry blossoms because there will be a lot of tasty leaves and sprouts to eat, so they will grow up quickly," Kunitachi said. Kunitach said the babies, who are still nursing, have already begun chewing on bamboo leaves, their favorite meal. Visitors enjoyed the rare chance to touch the giant rodents before they become "giant." On the other side of the animal park, a gifted elephant is showing off her art work. Yumeka, the 4-year-old Asian elephant who learned how to handle brushes and canvas three years ago, painted a landscape with a fully bloomed cherry blossom tree. A 5-year-old girl Yura Miyake was amazed looking at the subtle touches of brush being made by the heavy-handed trunk. Yumeka, whose collection of nearly 80 paintings and ...

Caplin Rous, a 2-year-old capybara, is dreaming when something wakes him up and he gives a single bark. Caplin does not bark very often, only when startled or really excited and playful so it has been difficult to catch on video. Sometimes he runs up and down the hall at night barking and shaking his head, the capybara equivalent of guinea pig popcorning, but I can never catch that. www.playpiano.com There are all kinds of musical scales, from major and minor scales to dorian and lydian and aolian modes. On this video I demonstrate chromatic, whole tone and pentatonic scales on the piano. (On the video I said there are only 2 pentatonic scales that is not quite accurate. You can have many different 5 note scales but for practical purposes the main two are built on all white keys and all black keys.) www.hellyers.com http so on a recent trip to the zoo I noticed the pesky Capybara was picking on the beavers... you can see in this clip that the beaver is obviously getting annoyed with the capybara so he gives him a nip, then the capybara dives underwater and resurfaces right underneath the beaver again. It's a funny old world innit?! This film was made at Drusillas Zoo Park near Brighton in Sussex (England)

For information on pet capybaras, please see my blog at www.GiantHamster.com. In this video, 15-month-old Garibaldi Rous enjoys a good scratching. Notice how his hair stands on end when he is happy. Also, notice that he bit the wrist strap for my camera in half (took like 5 seconds!) and so now I can't keep it around my wrist. Sorry that it appears in the shot sometimes.

After a hard day's swimming, rolling, eating, and trying to escape from his leashes, Gari settles into a more contemplative and relaxed mood in the evening. He has at times had an unhappy and stressful life and nothing gives me greater pleasure than scratching the cares of the world away for hours and hours on end. He is so appreciative. I would do anything to make him happy. Please watch/download this in 1080p Capybara are not suitable as pets for most people. They have very sharp teeth and can be territorial. They like mud and they should have somewhere to swim every day. You should be prepared to get up during the night to make snacks for him. And you should like to be woken up by a 100lb capy jumping on top of you in bed, as you lie sleeping. Gari never bites, he is the most wonderful animal I have ever met and he lives in a habitat that is perfectly suited to him with acres of land, a muddy pond with lots of vegetation to hide in, a muddy creek and a pool to swim in. He also has an exceptional 'owner', Melanie
