After seeing the movie, I can both see why people love it and hate it. They love it because quite honestly, it was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. Bill Withers (born July 4, 1938) is an American vocalist and hall-of-fame songwriter who performed and recorded from 1970 until 1985. Some of his best-known songs are "Ain't No Sunshine," "Use Me," "Lovely Day," "Lean on Me", "Grandma's Hands", and "Just the Two of Us". Bill Withers was born the youngest of nine children in the small coal-mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia. Raised in nearby Beckley, West Virginia, he was thirteen when his father died. He joined the United States Navy at eighteen and served for nine years, during which time he became interested in singing. He began writing songs to fill a need for lyrics that expressed what he felt. Following his discharge from the Navy in 1965, he moved to Los Angeles in 1967 to pursue a career in music. Withers worked as an assembler while recording demo tapes with his own money, shopping them around and performing in clubs during the night. When he debuted on the music scene with "Ain't No Sunshine" he refused to give up his job because be believed the music business was a fickle industry and that he was still a novice compared to other working acts. In early 1970, Clarence Avant of Sussex Records signed Withers to a record deal and assigned Booker T. Jones to produce his debut album. Just As I Am was released in 1971 with the tracks "Harlem" and "Ain't No Sunshine" as singles. Johnny Depp and the 'Public Enemies' trailer Ever since I started putting together this summer movie sneak peek in January, "Public Enemies" was the one trailer I really wanted to see. Johnny Depp as bank-robbing legend John Dillinger. Outstanding. Dillinger was a charismatic bad guy, endearing to the public even though he was essentially stealing their money and shooting up their neighborhoods. Is there a more perfect actor to play the role than Depp? He can pretty much take any character and make the audience like him. Depp = Dillinger is a great equation, even though there's really no math to be done there. It even helps you look past the fact that Depp's antagonist in the movie is played by Christian Bale. The Universal Studios movie also stars Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard ("La Vie En Rose"), and it hits theaters July 1. www.blacktree.tv

Great news! Switchfoot has been chosen to record a song for the official Prince Caspian movie soundtrack! Greetings amigos! When my brother and I were kids, my dad used to read us CS Lewis books before we went to sleep. So when we were asked to be involved in a movie based on his book, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" - we were honored to be considered. I wanted to capture the longing that is embedded in much of Lewis' writing- so I tried to think back to what these stories meant to me when I was six years old and write from that perspective. The song that came out is called "This is Home." It's been quite a journey: a San Diego song with strings cut at Abbey Road in London complete with a video shot in Hollywood. We are so excited to not only share this song with you, but you can hear the song streaming on our website, myspace, and facebook. The song will also be featured on the soundtrack, which is being released through Hollywood Records on Tuesday May 13th in stores everywhere.
