Nissan, on its part, has a lot to gain in terms of awareness given the brands focus on the development of dedicated electric vehicles like the Leaf. With this in mind, the Japanese carmaker developed a purpose-built prototype racer loosely based on the production Leaf that will receive its first public outing at the 2011 New York International Auto Show . Compared to the production model, the Lead NISMO RC (for Racing Competition), does away with the rear doors, rear seat, trunk, audio system, navigation, carpeting and other amenities, while gaining a mid-ship location for the battery pack, electric motor and inverter. The dedicated racer also gets a full carbon fiber monocoque bodywork with removable front and rear sections, fixed windows, LED headlights and taillights and driver-adjustable rear wing. It features a 3.9-inch shorter wheelbase, and is 0.8 inches longer and 6.7 inches wider than the production Leaf, with the most dramatic change concerning height as the RC sits more than a foot (13.8 inches) lower than the road-going model, and ground clearance is limited to 2.4 inches. Japanese tuners sure love breaking the mold and shocking people with their creations. Revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon, the 4509 GTR is the product of VeilSide, a Japan-based tuning firm established in 1990 by Yokomaku Hironao. It is based on a fourth generation Toyota Supra Turbo from 1993 and has received a complete makeover with the exterior design borrowing styling elements from the Bentley Continental with a hint of an Audi R8 here and there. The body parts are made out of carbon fiber and fiberglass, while the look is completed by the new black wheels sized 20-inches up front and 22-inches at the back. The alloys are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza rubber, 255/30R20 at the front and 295/25R22 at the rear. Inside, VeilSide's tune sees the addition of new sports seats upholstered in leather and diamond quilted alcantara, a sports steering wheel, modified instrument panel and more. The 4509 GTR also benefits from a plethora of performance upgrades for the powertrain as well as the chassis. The Toyota Supra's twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine gets an HKS turbo kit complete with an intercooler and a variety of other mods, which help boost output to an impressive 680-horses at 6250 rpm and 745 Nm or 594.5 lb-ft of peak torque. A new racing clutch, custom sports exhaust system, braking system and sports suspension round off the package.

Only a few hours after Lamborghini published some new photos its Murcielago replacement showing off the supercar's carbon fiber chassis and other components, and a scanned image allegedly from an upcoming issue of the Croatian edition of EVO Magazine fell into the hands of Worldcarfans. The picture of the red-colored Aventador LP700-4 appears to be real, though one can never be sure with these things. In any case, it won't be long before we get a full disclosure on Sant'Agata's new raging bull model, which is scheduled to receive its first public outing at the upcoming Geneva Salon. The basic numbers you need to know is that the LP700-4 will be a whopping 230kg (507 lbs) lighter than a Murcielago LP640-4 coupe at 1.575 kg (3.472 lbs) and have 60 more ponies from its brand new 6.5-liter V12 engine that delivers 700HP at 8250 rpm and a maximum torque of 690 Nm (479.4 lb-ft) at 5500 rpm for a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). Vw Golf RSI Dahlback in a circuit!!! GOLF RSI SPECIFICATION: From interview with HANS DAHLBACK dahlbackracing owner: Yes, the infamous Golf may be able to put out 1200 horsepower. Possibly. The story that comes from Hans Dahlback, the owner of Dahlback Racing and the mastermind behind these insane cars, is that the car, when running on a dyno that bolts to the hubs, produced well over 850 hp to the wheels at around 8000 rpm before the dyno started reading errors--and the car revs to upward of 11000 rpm. Using a 15 percent drivetrain-loss calculation, at 8000 rpm the car was over 1000 flywheel horsepower. I'm making an educated guess that the car produced another few ponies in the 3000 rpm that followed. Considering Dahlback claims the motor pulls strong until just under 11000 rpm--with the power increasing dramatically in the last couple thousand rpm--it's reasonable to assume, considering the extent the motor's power curve was climbing at the point the dyno stopped reading, that the car would have likely gained another 100 or 200 horses in the remaining available revs. You also have to keep in mind that Dahlback massively underpromises any horsepower claim. I was told by various people at Dahlback's shop that the Golf was producing significantly more than 850 wheel horsepower on the dyno, but Dahlback would only confirm 850-plus hp, and thus that is what I worked my calculations from. And yes, the car shoots flames out the side exit exhaust during deceleration. It was <b>...</b>
