Preserving Miss Belvedere
Dwight Foster of Ultra One is on a mission to preserve Miss Belvedere, a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere that was buried in a time capsule for Tulsa, Oklahoma's 50 anniversary in 1957. When the capsule was opened last year, instead of a shiny '57 Belvedere, they found a car covered with rust because the concrete vault had leaked. With a little patience, and rust remover, Foster is going to preserve the car for the future.

Tulsa Story :This is a video pictorial of the 1957 Plymouth Belvedere that was buried in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 15, 1957 as a time capsule. It was uncovered 50 years later on June 15, 2007. I was hoping to see a pristine version of "Miss Belvedere", but as it turned out, the vault leaked and filled with water, causing much damage to the automobile. As a car enthusiast, I watched the story develop over the past few years. I waited and watched it live online as she was extracted from the ground. When I saw the rust-colored dirt and muck on her, I had a bad feeling about her condition. I wish the person who won this car (by guessing the closest to the town's actual 2007 population back in 1957) could have it restored, but that would be a massive undertaking. On the other hand, she should get a chance to dance again! This little video show the castle Belvedere in Wien/Austria. At that day, a group of people with very old clothes where there. The individuals of this group meets each other every year to walk with this old fashion in old ambience to get the feeling of earlier times. They were very videogenic, so thanks for the pictures! I filmed the scenes with Panasonic Lumix GH1 in 1280x720p with 50 pic/sec. The last few seconds in the video are fotos of that camera. In our latest exclusive Luxury Reborn video graffiti godfather Blade hooks up with legendary Subway Art photographers Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant to share stories about downtown New York, the early days of street art and why true luxury is the freedom to express yourself creatively One of the first wave of New York train writers who paved the way for the subsequent graffiti explosion, Blade painted thousands of subway trains from 1973-1983, inspiring a generation of budding artists and earning himself the title King of Graffiti. Later, he was one of the first graffiti artists to take his work into the downtown gallery scene, transforming 75 foot graffiti letters into 20 inch letters as he took paintings of trains onto canvas using the spray can. Photographers Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant are still best known for their pioneering, hugely-influential book Subway Art, which documented New Yorks graffiti scene and inspired thousands of would-be street artists around the world, including our very own Banksy. Published in 1984, Subway Art recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a lavish oversized collectors edition, bringing Blade, Martha and Henry together for the London launch party at Shoreditchs Black Rat gallery, where we caught up with them. "Little is known about China in Ireland that goes beyond cuisine and kung fu movie stereotypes. While China is not a top destination for Irish travellers, Irish Jesuits made a home for themselves there over four hundred years ago. In the 1920s they built a school, Wah Yan Jesuit College Kowloon in Hong Kong, and it is this connection which has inspired a new student exchange project between China and Ireland. The Jesuit Belvedere College in Dublin has a healthy transition year programme. Between sport, music, drama (and everything else) it can be a busy year for TY students. A new programme begun this year gives those in TY the opportunity to experience Chinese language and culture. Run by the UCD Confucius Institute, the 10-week course includes modules in Chinese language, food, society, tradition, arts, film and music. For some of those involved, the introductory course will serve a very practical purpose, as 17 Irish students are preparing to travel to Hong Kong for two weeks in April. The exchange between Wah Yan College and Belvedere College is being piloted this year and has all gone to plan thus far. Ornamentation, he argues, is redundant, cost-intensive kitschy decoration, and an expression of the cultural backwardness which can be found in primitive cultures, and which is not representative of modern man. The barbarian era, the architect concludes, is finally past. In the work of artists such as Adriana Czernin, Brigitte Kowanz, Sarah Morris, Raqib Shaw, Aisha Khalid, Mona Hatoum or Parastou Forouhar, ornamentation is given a voice on different levels, such as physicality, eros, violence, cultural differences, and the rhythms of modern and traditional life, and reveals its seductive power to touch upon deeper layers that lie behind the wall of the abstract beauty of the ornament. What these artists all share is their approach of use this seductive power of ornamental beauty with a very clear intention in mind. In this exhibition, ornamentation emerges not as a hollow decoration, but rather as an allegory of the collective modern existence within mass society, and the artists use the ornament as a powerful tool for critique and rebellion.
