These animations use the same concept as my other videos. The only difference is, the images in this video are on a screen instead of printed on a piece of paper. Ever since I first created my first animated optical illusion years ago I have always wondered if the concept would work on a screen. Sure enough! It does. This took about a week to produce. Everything had to be absolutely exact for the effect to work. I used photoshop to created the 2D animations and Lightwave 3D to create the 3D animations. Watch as hidden animations come alive by using a specific frame rate and shutter speeds of a camera and RPM of a record player. To me this is one of the ultimate illusions. Definition of Illusion: something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality. I used a Numark turntable set to 45 RPM and the camera was set to 24 FPS. The shutter speed was set to around 840. With that combination of settings a 30 frame animation would appear to stand still. I used the slider to increase / descrease rpms which caused the images to move foward or backward. The sequence of the guy jumping on the blocks was the most difficult but turned out the best, in my opinion. The images of the guy jumping is me. I recorded myself jumping in the living room then took 30 frames from that footage and traced the images in photoshop and filled with black. Then printed out the 30 images and cut each one out. I used 30 wooden blocks and glued them to a piece of construction paper then taped the images of the jumping guy to the clear sheet and aligned them with the blocks. I also love the pac-man animation. It's so simple but just has such a cool feel to see the mouth opening and closing.

The Bicycle Animation
This is a piece created to question whether it was possible to film animation in realtime. Part of my CSM 3rd year disseration project I was looking at proto animation (really early basic animation) in contemporary design. I've taken a lot of influence from other contemporary designers who are using these techniques to explore the way we look at animation and how its made. As stated on my channel I have interviewed animators such as Jim le Fevre and in my research referenced other people using this technique such as David Wilson and Tim Wheatley who did this before me. I developed this project based on what is being done in animation right now as well as a lot of primary research into the history of animation techniques. Big Thanks to my friend Stefan Neidermeyer who did the sound. The soundtrack is made up of various bike noies recorded during the filming process which Stef then remixed to make the amazing soundtrack. Shot with a Nokia N8: nokia.ly 'Gulp' is a short film created by Sumo Science at Aardman, depicting a fisherman going about his daily catch. Shot on location at Pendine Beach in South Wales, every frame of this stop-motion animation was shot using a Nokia N8, with its 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics. Mike takes a trip to Toon Town! Comedian Mike Birbiglia has appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, Late Night With Conan O'Brien, The View, and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. In 2008, Mike Birbiglia teamed up with producer Nathan Lane to present "Sleepwalk With Me," a painfully funny one-person show about first love, denial, and how the sleepwalking disorder that nearly killed him might have saved his life. The New York Times called the show "Simply perfect," and it was twice extended, earning Mike nominations for both a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Circle Critics Award for "Best Solo Performance." The Boston Globe has described Mike's stories this way: "As honest as any Richard Pryor confession and as engaging and inclusive as an old Bill Cosby record." Mike is a popular contributor to shows as diverse as "The Bob & Tom Show" and "This American Life." In 2009 Mike headlined his own Comedy Central tour, called the "I'm in The Future Also" Tour. He performed standup in more than 30 cities and universities across the country. Mike Birbiglia is also hard at work on his next comedy album and next one-hour special, and is currently working on a screenplay adaptation of "Sleepwalk With Me," as well as a collection of short stories to be published by Simon & Schuster. Mike Birbiglia is a very busy guy.
