In this video, I continue my series of Google Android videos and discuss the Android Marketplace. The Android Marketplace is Google's answer to the iTunes App Store. Within the marketplace, you'll find many applications both free and paid sorted by category. I had heard many stories about how much the Android Marketplace lacked applications, but I really didn't find that to be the case. When compared to the iTunes App Store, sure it has much less, but there's plenty there for the average consumer. The controls are simple to navigate, applications include a summary and reviews, and the pricing structures seem decent. I was unable to experience the purchasing process since the review unit I have does not allow one to purchase apps, but downloading free apps was a breeze. Every download occurs in the background and notifies you (via the wonderful Android notification system) when it's complete. I've downloaded quite a few apps, and I plan to try many more using the Google Android Marketplace. Enjoy!

Since its launch it has undergone some serious changes. The manufacturer released an update on December 24 to resolve issues with WiFi, pinch to zoom and ironically the ability to play Angry Birds!!! These updates were a welcomed addition but sadly Stream TV networks did announce that the display on this tab is not multi-touch so it seems this will remain a single touch input device (not good for games). More importantly XDA developers forum has begun to develop for this device and a rom (courtesy of Dexter) that includes the Android Marketplace is already available! Ad-Hoc tethering is also possible with a patch however it will break the WiFi connection when resuming from sleep mode. In other words you will need an app like WifiConnector from the marketplace to re-establish your connection without jumping into wireless settings. Basically, if you can get past the average battery life (4-5 hours), lack of true multi-touch and slightly larger form factor of this 7 inch tab, I believe it is the most powerful Android tab to date. Also, since Honeycomb (Official Android Tablet OS) will only support Dual Core chips like the Tegra 2, the Elocity may out live far more expensive Android offerings like the Samsung Galaxy tab! twitter.com Android 3.0/Honeycomb was built to take the tablet to a different level and one of those was gaming; combined with the addition of Tegra 2 chip from Nvidia. Which aims to provided a more robust and crisp 3D gaming experience on the Android Platform. I looked at a couple of games, some built for the system( Dungeons Defender, CORDY)and one old gamer Super KO. Yes I did look at Angry birds though not in the video.The Nvidia Tegra Zone acts as a hub which gives you Android and Tegra related gaming news, though it shows games that can be downloaded; it still links you back to the Android Market Place. Hopefully that changes in the future and allows user to download full games with out the need for future downloading before play. Dungeon Defenders is pre-installed with the Xoom but you do have to download all the resources, once that was done. The game ran smoothly and controls worked well and graphically the game looked solid. Next was Cordy which I though looked like on of the best Android games I have seen, it ran smoothly, the 3D animation was nice and the controls were super easy. Super KO and old Android game, though no optimized for Android 3.0 or tablets, ran well, graphically the screen looked stretched out but the game sill played well for not been optimized for the system. lastly Angry birds Seasons, though not included in the video, it did what it does best, look good, play well and have no issue.
