Today Amazon officially unveiled their Android application store with 3800 apps. Why did Amazon launch their own app store? There are a few reasons that we can think of. Chief among them is that Amazon wants to be a part of the huge app store industry and reap profits. Second, Amazon has a huge asset they can use to promote and sell apps...their website! And finally, Amazon already has your credit card on file, making it super easy for you to buy apps from them. So how is the app store? The interface is quite nice, but we found ourselves missing the "geeky" green color of the Android market. We were appreciate of the free offering for new Angry Birds Rio, but were quickly sobered by the overall lack of selection of apps. While there isn't a high quantity of apps, most of the basics are covered. If you happen to buy an app from the Amazon app store that you already own from the Amazon app store, you'll get a notification that will give you a chance to cancel your order, which is a good feature. Amazon is now in the Android apps business with their newly released Appstore. Apple has already sued them over the name (they have their own "App Store"). The new store will offer another avenue through which one can buy and install apps on their Android-powered device. Unfortunately, to use it you have to be able to side-load apps -- which many AT&T phones cannot do. Additionally, unlike apps in the Android Market, apps that you download through the Amazon Appstore don't let you know what security permissions the app requires until after you have downloaded the app, at which point the Android OS presents you with the permissions the app is requesting before you install it. While this is essentially the same information as you'd get from apps in the Market, you have to spend the time (and potentially the money in bandwidth fees) before you get to a decision that may result in your choosing not to install the app. See more at JoeTheAndroidGuy.com

As a vetran smart phone user who has seen what the space was like before and after the 'app store' Amazon's Appstore (as well as those by the various cell phone carriers, but EXPECIALLY amazons) really bug me. When I want something for my device I prefer to have one place to get it and one place that knows if there are updates. Having two, or twenty places to try to find things is no fun. As much as I'm anti apple, I thank them so much for bringing forward the appstore concept that each platform gathers all the applications for it together. What do you think? As some of you may or may not know Amazon has created an App store with in the Android Market its self and to get the latest Angry Birds installment "Angry Birds Rio" you are going to have to go in there and get it.. I for one am reserving judgment on this. I do believe its a much better idea than trying to launch your app store but I don't see the potential revenue streams to help out Android itself so will potential problems arise between Android and Amazon, probably. Today lets take a look at the Newly launched Amazon App Store. It brings a couple new things to the table. One exciting feature is the Free App Per Day. That is right, one featured paid app will be free to download each day. This is a great way to advertise the app and give those who download it a sweet deal at the same time. There is also a 'Try Before You Buy' feature. With this feature, on your pc or mac, you can run an android emulator and try the app before you buy. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a try before you buy app up but I will have a video to follow once it is. You can also give Amazon App Store gift cards. Much like an Itunes gift card this is a sweet gift for your favorite android users. I also take a look at Angry Birds Rio. Same great game with a couple new twists. So take a look at the video!
