How to Do the Wop Dance
Mix your music! Learn GarageBand in 30 Days! mhlo.co Part 1: Stance Start in an open stance, legs spread apart slightly past shoulder width. Keep everything loose, doing a little bounce, alternating weight from one hip to the other. Part 2: Arms With your hands balled up into fists, face both forearms left. Your right forearm should be across your body, your left out past your side. Now, swing your forearms downward and in an arc over to the other side. Then, swing them back to the left. Part 3: Shoulder Lean Lean your right shoulder down towards your right hip, then lean your left shoulder down towards your left hip. Part 4: Head With your chin pointed down at your chest, roll your head to the right, then to the left. Part 5: Leg Lean Throughout the move, you should be slowly leaning with your legs over to the left, then slowly leaning with your legs over to the right. Part 6: Legs Lift your left knee up. When it's time, lift your right knee up. Now that you've practiced all these moves, it's time to incorporate them into a single dance, the wop. When you swing your forearms to the right, also be shoulder leaning to the right and rolling your head to the right. When you swing your forearms to the left, everything should be going left. So to do the wop, go right, left, right, left. On the last left, lift that right knee up. After that, start the slow lean in the other direction. Nickelodeon Doo-Wop Bumpers
These bumpers are pure genius to me. This was when they started making awesome bumpers that people remember still to this day. I also love the story behind these bumpers. Two people, Fred Seibert and Alan Goodman used to be known as "logo guys". They are known for developing (not disigning) the MTV logo. They worked for MTV Networks for a little while, until they had the idea of developing media brands. They left MTV Networks and started Fred/Alan Inc. The first clients for Fred/Alan was MTV Networks. Fred and Alan, along with Tom Corey and Scott Nash, developed what is refered today as "the orange splat". Fred and Alan wanted to then create bumpers for Nickelodeon. They worked with Eugene Pitt, leader of The Jive 5, and several different animators. The hardest part was convincing Nickelodeon to use Doo-Wop. Nickelodeon executives believed, "Doo-wops 30 years old, no kid has ever heard of it. According to Fred Seibert, "We won the day on two grounds. "Fred played on the executives liberal backgrouds. 'We love all forms of African-American music, and using doo-wop will be a great way to educate American kids without anyone being the wiser.' "Alans worked even better. He opened his mouth and, quoting The Marcels arrangement of chestnut 'Blue Moon,' sang: "'Bom-ma-bom, a-bom-bom-a-bom, ba-ba-bom-bom-a-bomp, b-dang-a-dang-dang, b-ding-a-dong-ding.' Who Put The Bomp - Barry Mann
The single debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 on August 7, 1961, and remained for twelve weeks, peaking at # 7[3]. Mann's version did not chart in the UK, though a cover version by the Viscounts reached # 21 there in September, 1961, and another version by Showaddywaddy charted at # 37 in August, 1982. "Who Put the Bomp (in the Bomp, Bomp, Bomp)" is a Doo-wop style hit song from 1961 co-written (with Gerry Goffin) and recorded by Barry Mann. He was backed up by The Halos, who had previously backed up Curtis Lee on the song "Pretty Little Angel Eyes". The song was originally released as a single on the ABC-Paramount label (10237). In this song, Mann sings about the frequent use of nonsense lyrics in Doo-Wop music, and how his girl fell in love with him after listening to several of such songs. Examples of the type of song referred to include the Marcels' version of "Blue Moon" (in which they sing "Bomp bomp ba bomp, ba bomp ba bomp bomp" and "dip-de-dip-de-dip") and the Edsels' "Rama-Lama-Ding-Dong", both of which charted earlier the same year. The song inspired the title of a music magazine, called "Who Put the Bomp". The song fits into the category of "self-referential" songs. Rock songs are often about rock (We're gonna rock around the clock), reggae songs about reggae, rap songs about rap, etc. In this particular song that aspect is accentuated by the fact that Mann is a songwriter singing about songwriters.
