In attempting to explore the complexities of the nested vortices described by Marko Rodin and more specifically Randy Powell I have created this second toroid number map which is related specifically to the toroid on my previous film - an "18 x 36" toroid. Each strip here represents one nested vortice on the 18x36 toroid as discussed by Randy Powell. These 6 strips therefore becoming two further nested vortices when given numerical value. There are six complete nested vortices circuits. I have tried to aid interpretation of the numbers and their patterns by using a specific colour scheme. This is somewhat arbitrary, however I have grouped the 3,6,9s as oranges, reds. The 2,5,8's are blues, and the 1,4,7's are greens. The negative charged numbers are darker and the positive lighter. If anyone has any comments or corrections please do get in touch. I am fairly new to all this so value feedback that can help me achieve the most complete understanding - if 'complete' is the right expression.

Project 'Tornado Genesis: Multiple Vortices' investigates the conditions that favor the formation of multiple vortices. I have designed and constructed a large-scale tornado machine generator for the operation of a 7.5 foot tall tornado. L-1011 Airliner Wing Vortice Tests at NASA Langley Research Center, notice how long the vortices stay active and how slowly they move.I should probably elaborate on what I mean by slow. I'm referring to the time between the airliner passing by and the reaction of the smoke. This 58 second movie clip shows an L-1011 Airliner Wing Vortice test at NASA Langley Research Center. NASA conducted the Adaptive Performance Optimization experiment aboard Orbital Sciences Corporation's Lockheed L-1011-100. The program was developed by engineers at the Dryden Flight Research Center. Dryden was also involved in limited wake vortex studies using an L-1011 in 1977. The Adaptive Performance Optimization project is designed to reduce the aerodynamic drag of large subsonic transport aircraft by varying the camber of the wing through real-time adjustment of flaps or ailerons in response to changing flight conditions. Reducing the drag will improve aircraft efficiency and performance, resulting in signifigant fuel savings for the nation's airlines worth hundreds of millions of dollars annually.

As part of the overall National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) study of trailing vortices -- the invisible flow of spiraling air that trails from the wings of large aircraft and can "upset" smaller aircraft flying behind -- the NASA Flight Research Center (FRC) borrowed a Boeing 747 jetliner for testing. The B-747 had been purchased by NASA for the space shuttle program and assigned to the Johnson Space Center.
