I had to make another Tuomas-tribute because I love this song so much :) The song is "The Heart Asks Pleasure First", theme of the movie called "The Piano" composed by Michael Nyman.

Tuomas is talking about the gig at Rock Am Ring which was a disaster due to power failure, due to Anette´s stamina we managed to overcome the problem, the next gig at Rock Im Park was good. Then we had a few weeks holiday, all the member have their good and bad days, but it´s good that we have 5 members, so if some-one has a bad day there are still 4 members who have a good day. They are all laughing about the media hassle concerning Anette´s style. No-one in Nightwish has a stylist. They all wear what they feel like. For exemple at Tuska Festival, I had so positive and good feeling that I wanted to wear something white. And Anette, she had her "troll-day" so she wore that dress. Tuomas thinks that this controversy Anette vs. tarja has been quite mild, only one middle-finger so far and we have done about 120 gigs. I expected much, much worse. Fans have really given Anette a chance. Due to Anette we have now many new fans, etc.

This is a brief excerpt from the 2006 Finnish documentary Maan mainiot on Tuomas Holopainen, the songwriter and keyboardist of the metal band Nightwish. Tuomas is playing the soundtrack of The Village on his keyboard and explains why it's his favorite movie. Translation below is courtesy of Tika and Morrigan. I've added and revised the subtitles myself and uploaded it for my English utopia/dystopia project on the 2004 movie, The Village. :) I think that is perhaps the most beautiful soundtrack ever made. And the most beautiful movie. The Village. In the beginning of the year, when I was going through difficult times, it was hard to keep on track with what was happening when there were all kinds of trouble and drama. More than in the last ten years altogether. That movie helped me through that. I remember that I watched it at least ten times a week. Some days two or three times. That movie is a great example of escapism. I would be ready to move into that village any time. (Also, please note I had a similar video up earlier but deleted it because I've finally been able to make the subtitles larger and closer to the bottom of the screen. Nightwish were shooting their new video in Rovaniemi, Finland. According to Tuomas Holopainen the 3rd video is like Lapland meets Salvador Dali. Tuomas: When we hit the shooting location, my first impression was, that we are the first colony in the moon. Initially we didn´t mean to make the 3rd video, a follow up to videos Amarant and Bye Bye Beautiful. But when the City of Rovaniemi approached us and offered the opportunity, we just had to jump at the chance. Most of all Rovaniemi could offer a perfect location whare we could shoot the video. This kind of Lapp wilderness feeling brings strongly to life in this video. Lapp wilderness feeling meets surrealism by Salvador Dali. But I dot want to reveal yet, which song is in question. I can say that the video kinda walks hand in hand with the lyrics of the song, for once. Director of this new video is Stobe Harju. Antti Jokinen (the famous finnish music video director) has directed both Amarant and Bye Bye Beautiful

At the beginning and the end of this clip you can hear Tuomas play the song "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" from the movie "The Piano". Nightwish had actually planned to release a cover version of the full song but the composer Michael Nyman didn't agree. In her studio report Anette already mentioned the song. Here are some excerpts from an interview with further information. Q: You also recorded one extra track that hasn´t been composed by Nightwish, but some other composer. Who is the composer of that particular song in question and what song we are talking about here? Tuomas: Yes. Anyway, we haven´t set the name yet and we are not ready to reveal the song´s name yet either. But it´s like a theme song for a movie. Q: I read from your website that you were waiting for a permission to get that song released on your new album. Have you gotten it yet? Tuomas: Not yet. The destiny of that is still pretty much open. We don´t know what to do with it as we still haven´t got the permission to release it on this album. The guy who wrote it, hated our version, so it´s still fine. (*everyone burst into laughing*) Tuomas: I mean, he has a right to his opinion, of course but c´mon I seem to remember that there was another interview where Tuomas talked about the song and explained why they weren't allowed to release it but I can't find it, sorry.
