The MA Math under the guidance of Amma (Sri Mata Amritanandamayi) responded immediately to the Tsunami tragedy. It performed immediate rescue operations solely driven by its own volunteers, provided shelter, free clothing, food, medical and financial aid. Moreover the MA Math pledged $23 million towards Tsunami relief and rehabilitation in India, Sri Lanka and the Andaman Islands. But, in truth, altogether the value of the project has doubled as it has taken so many new dimensions in terms of adding fully equipped communities to the housing project with community halls, parks, healthcare centers, schools and also so much of the work is being done by volunteers. On July 2005, the United Nations officially recognized the Mata Amritanandamayi Math as an NGO. Tens of thousands of volunteers—including ashram residents, students and staff of Amrita institutions and admirers from India and abroad—have been selflessly participating in and contributing to various relief works since the disaster struck. When the tsunami struck Amritapuri and the neighboring coastal villages on 26 December 2004, Ammas Ashram became the centre of relief operations. In the immediate area countless houses were destroyed. It was Amma herself who waded through the water, directing the evacuation of the 20000 people visiting the Ashram at the time. She sent volunteers out into the flooded village to rescue people and search for the injured and dying. Amma deployed ambulances, doctors and medical supplies <b>...</b>

PACIFIC OCEAN (March 13, 2011) US Navy Sailors assigned to the Black Knights of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (HS) 4 and Japanese relief workers load supplies aboard an SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter to support earthquake and tsunami relief efforts near Sendai, Japan. The helicopter then flies along the coast before landing at Takihama, Japan where US and Japanese forces work together to unload the helicopters. HS-4 is embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) off the coast of Japan rendering humanitarian assistance following an 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami as part of Operation Tomodachi.
