Former Wales rugby star Gareth Thomas has paid tribute to Gary Speed, who died over the weekend, aged just 42. Recently retired Thomas, who won 100 caps for his country, said the Wales boss would be "sadly missed by people all over the world but especially in Wales where he was an iconic hero." Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mirror, Thomas, 37, said: "He's such a well-loved guy and he was doing so well with the Welsh football team. "Taking aside the sport, he was a passionate gentleman, a really nice guy and he'll be sadly missed by people all over the world but especially in Wales where he was an iconic hero."

The Wales football manager Gary Speed, who has died at the age of 42 after apparently taking his own life, was an outstanding footballer and promised to be equally successful in this new phase of his career.
