MSP Maryland Trooper 2 Remembered
Around 11:10 pm Saturday September 27th, 2008, Trooper 2 responded to Waldorf, Maryland. The mission was to transport two car crash victims to Prince George's Hospital Center's trauma unit. After lifting off from the scene with 3 crew members and two patients on board, the pilot contacted the tower at Andrews Air Force Base requesting assistance with an instrument landing due to weather. Two ambulances were dispatched to the airfield to meet the helicopter and complete the patient transports. The helicopter never arrived. According to National Transportation Safety Board member Debbie Hersman, between the time the helicopter left its hanger at Andrews Air Force Base and when it was back in the same area, heading to the hospital, visibility had dropped from about seven miles to four miles. In that same hour, the cloud cover, or ceiling, went from 1300 feet to as low as 200 feet in some spots. An intense search began and the helicopter was found crashed in a heavily wooded area at 2am. Killed in the crash were Pilot Stephen Bunker, Trooper/Medic First Class Mickey Lippy, EMT-B Tonya Mallard of the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department and Ashley Younger, a 17-year-old who was the second victim from the Waldorf car accident.

In the spirit of friendship and peace, The Turkish Cultural Center of New York held its 3rd Annual Friendship Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City last night. The evening's events were not only highlighted by the presence of presidents, ministers and ambassadors but the goal of the event was to promote dialog and peace. // This year the 3rd Annual Friendship Dinner organized by, The Turkish Cultural Center of New York, brought together more than 600 hundred guests including prominent figures from the world of business, art, and politics. The occasion was highlighted by the presence of Turkiye's President Abdullah Gul SOT : Abdullah Gul, President of Turkiye Despite both Hillary and Bill Clinton not being able to make the event, they sent a warm message to those in attendance. A tribute to the emergency services personnel that lost their lives when Trooper 2 went down in heavy fog and rain. A terrible tragedy to say the least. The news story: Maryland State Police have confirmed the identifications of the victims from the crash involving a State Police helicopter early this morning in Prince Georges County. The deceased victims are identified as Stephen H. Bunker, 59, of Waldorf, Md., the State Police pilot; Trooper First Class Mickey C. Lippy, 34, of Westminster, Md., the State Police flight paramedic; Tonya M. Mallard, 38, of Waldorf, an EMT-B with the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department, Station 12; and Ashley J. Younger, 17, of Waldorf, who was a patient being transported. The surviving victim of the crash is identified as Jordan A. Wells, 18, of Waldorf. Wells is currently undergoing treatment at the Prince Georges County Hospital Center. At about 11:00 pm yesterday, Maryland State Police medevac helicopter, Trooper 2, was dispatched to the scene of a traffic crash in Waldorf. Trooper 2 left its hangar at the Andrews Air Force Base. It was piloted by Mr. Steven Bunker and the flight paramedic was Trooper First Class Mickey Lippy. The crew flew to the crash scene and picked up two patients, Ashley Younger and Jordan Wells. Joining the crew to assist with medical care on the flight to the hospital was Tonya Mallard, who had responded to the scene with the Waldorf Rescue Squad.
