Due to heavy casualties in flat-bottomed trucks like Strykers and Humvees, DoD has resorted to v-hull shaped MRAP trucks which is progress but still far from the cross-country mobility we need from tracks that can also have superior armor layers and mobile firepower weaponry. Some inexperienced troops might mistake internal poilicing for actual nation-state war and assume that if they were lucky and did not get killed or maimed as their peers did that Strykers are aok. They are not ok and represent the same failed BTR motorized infantry that failed in the last Afghanistan war. This is the last day of the 2011 RC road trip before heading back home. Day 6 was a travel day and day 7 was spent with some really great guys from Horizon Hobby. Chris and I got to meet John Redman and Gary Katzer, got a tour of Horizon Hobby and also participated in a R/Cast podcast which was really cool. I even got to answer some of the subscriber questions. After that we went to Eli field and got to watch Seth Arnold fly the Stryker F-27Q and then I was given a turn on the sticks to fly the Stryker. It was quite a rush, but the best part was that they gave me the plane that day. M1126 Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle
The IAV Stryker is a family of eight-wheeled all-wheel-drive armored combat vehicles produced by General Dynamics Land Systems, in use by the United States Army. Based on the Canadian LAV III light-armored vehicle, which in turn is based on the Swiss MOWAG Piranha III 8x8, the Stryker is the US Army's first new armored vehicle since the M2/M3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle in the 1980s. The Stryker was championed by General Eric Shinseki when he was US Army Chief of Staff. The vehicle is employed in Stryker Brigade Combat Teams, light and mobile units based on the Brigade Combat Team Doctrine that relies on vehicles connected by military C4I networks.
