BAFTA-nominated actor Ray Winstone, star of Nil By Mouth and Sexy Beast, is to star in a new ad as part of a nationwide campaign by Digital Cinema Media (DCM) to promote cinema as an advertising medium. The 40-second ad is the second in the series with the strapline 'Cinema: why advertise anywhere else'; the first ad, Captivating Canvas, also produced as part of the competition with the NFTS, ran for three months in cinemas in January 2010 and generated over six million impacts. The latest commercial will run nationwide on DCM screens from October 1st this year and is the work of producer Kurban Kassan, director/editor James Griffiths, director of photography John Lee and post producer Juan Pablo Salazar. The competition is part of a long term plan to build stronger ties with the film industry whilst supporting the country's emerging talent through the NFTS.

A short tribute to the acclaimed actor Ray Winstone. Raymond Andrew "Ray" Winstone, Jr.[1] (born 19 February 1957) is an Emmy Award-winning English film and television actor. He is mostly known for his "tough guy" roles, beginning with that of Carlin in the 1979 film Scum, and is also known as a voice over actor. More recently he has branched out into film production. He is perhaps best known for his roles in the films Nil by Mouth, Sexy Beast, Cold Mountain, King Arthur, The Proposition, The Departed, Beowulf and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Winstone was born in Homerton, in the London Borough of Hackney.[2] His family was originally from Cirencester, Gloucestershire half of them moving to London, the other half to Wales. Moving via Plaistow to Enfield when Winstone was seven, his father, Raymond Andrew Winstone, Sr., ran a fruit and vegetable business (he is now a black cab driver) while his mother, Margaret, had a job emptying fruit machines. Winstone recalls playing with his friends on bomb sites until "Moors Murderers" Ian Brady and Myra Hindley were arrested after preying on children. Winstone was educated at Edmonton County, which had changed from a grammar school to a comprehensive upon his arrival.
