Cole Porter - You're the Top - A Visual Guide
Cole Porter loved to write songs with lists of various items. "You're the Top" is probably the best known of these list songs. It was written for the Broadway show "Anything Goes" in 1934. Porter composed it during a cruise on Germany's Rhine River. He asked his fellow passengers to tell him what they considered important in their lives, or important in general, and Porter worked them into the lyric. For the record, he names an astonishing 37 persons, places and things in the course of the song. I've included a visual reference to every item he mentions. Actually there are many variations on "You're the Top," with the list changing with the times. This version is the one Porter himself recorded in 1934. It's been digitally remastered and cleaned up and sounds about as good as it did the day he laid down the track. Porter wasn't much of a singer, but he more than makes up for that with his enthusiasm and sense of fun.

This video was taken at the Walmart in Porter Ranch, CA on November 24th, 2011 during the store's Black Friday sales. What you're seeing is a clip taken of a group of shoppers ripping and tearing at each other and a kiosk to get their hands on discounted Xbox 360 games. During the mayhem, one woman thought she was going to be robbed, so she pulled out her pepper spray and blasted the crowd. From my understanding another girl was shot directly in the face with the spray. You can see the Security guards escorting the girl in a white shirt away from the area at the end of the video. BRONX, NEW YORK SEPTEMBER 27, 2011 -- Rapper Denzil Porter releases his newest single "Kanye West" off his upcoming project Home Made Music. "Kanye West", produced by XLnce of //LXG, was inspired by the stereotypical New York City resident. New Yorkers: hardworking, tough and outspoken are often viewed to those outside of the city as just plain assholes. Denzil explains, "I feel like it's just in our blood to do what we do and say what we say when we want to. Although we look at it as how we live, outsiders look at is as rude and obnoxious". After adding some witty lyrics inspired by real life events, Denzil Porter knew he needed a chorus that the crowd could chant when performed live like "Haymaker", but a lot more comical like the song's storyline. When asked why not just name the song "Asshole", Denzil responds, "The title was selected because I wanted to use the most famous asshole that accepts his role as an asshole as much as the rest of us do. No diss intended". Since the song was debuted in Canada when Denzil Porter opened up for Kendrick Lamar, the demand for a video and the song's release were high. The video, directed by Ulysses Adams and Fiona Amara stars Wreckhouse members being assholes in different ways. This ranges from stealing candy from a little girl to beating up a homeless man.
