Both Playsport models were set at 1080P mode at 30 fps. Overall conclusion - While the ZX5 sports some new features (but leaves out the HDMI cable unless you register the camera with Kodak and pay a shipping fee), I still think you'll get a better value for the ZX3 at a much lower price. You may notice that the ZX5 picks up more sound compared to the ZX3 outdoors with the birds chirping in the background, but it seems like the reproduction of my voice sounds cleaner on the ZX3 (especially important for me when I watch the footage with a good audio system) besides having better image quality than the ZX5. It's your call on which is better. On an added note regarding the ZX5's internal battery, even though you do get more life on a full charge compared to the ZX3's detachable battery (nearly double set at 1080P), replacement batteries are inexpensive from third party manufacturers which makes the ZX3 more flexible, especially during long video sessions where you may not have the luxury (or time) to recharge the ZX5's internal battery everywhere. Update (Aug. 26, 2011) - I'm learning that any camera that uses the more aggressive mp4 (ie Kodak ZX5) or AVCHD format is subject to a compromise in sound quality compared to the less-compressed .mov (ie Kodak ZX3) and MPEG-2 formats. By sound quality, I mean accuracy of reproducing natural sound. The biggest test is by recording bass at relatively loud volume levels (ie concerts) without distortion. Audio is crap .. wind noise is pretty severe .. must try it with something over the microphone next time Filmed at 720p 60FPS - A note to anyone mounting on a motorcycle . . . Ensure the EIS is off as it does not handle the high speed vibrations very well ... This works well for hand held, but not mounting. In this video I am testing the Kodak Playsport Zx5. This camera was designed to be waterproof up to 10ft underwater. Includes an underwater correction mode which automatically adjusts for the low light conditions that are typical in underwater situations, allowing you to take better videos or photos underwater. I noticed after transferring the video(s) to my laptop, I could hear a high pitched sound throughout most of the video. Not sure what this could be. I will do further testing in the future.

Simply put the device is rugged and I love it, the PlaySport is one of the few handy cams that I would glad keep in my pocket any day of the week. It feels solid in the hands. What makes the PlaySport stand out is its waterproof design. The Kodak PlaySport can easily be considered just another Handy HD Cam. This is an unboxing video of the Kodak Play-sport Zx5, 2nd Generation. The Kodak Playsport is water-proof, shock-proof, dust-proof and shoots 1080p 30fps, 720p 60fps, 720p 30fps, WVGA 480p. It also has electronic image stabilization, and takes 5mp still shots (3072 x 1728). It has on-screen camera editing and comes with an editing program for your Mac or PC. It has normal and macro focus modes. You can choose between NTSC and PAL video output modes. There is a one touch upload button that lets you upload your photos and videos to most popular websites like- Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and email. It has USB, Sd card and HDMI inputs. The camera records in a .mp4 format and takes pictures in a .jpg format. I ordered my camera off of amazon.ca. In the box, there was the camera, a wrist strap, USB cable, a USB to Electric outlet to charge the camera and some manuals. If you register the camera on the Kodak website then you will get a free HDMI cable. I also ordered a 16GB class 10 SD card for my camera.

Cheap way of mounting the kodak zx5 onto my bike helmet. Attaches probably quicker than any other mount available. Purchased an mp3 player arm band strap. If your lucky you can pick these up from poundland but make sure that any you buy, the zx5 fits tightly into the holder.

This video is to compare the Kodak Playsport Zx5 to the iPhone 4's video camera quality. Both cameras were recording the same footage at the same time, with no colour correction, image stabilization or any effects to make the video quality look better. The Kodak was recording at 720p 60 fps (frames per second) and the iPhone 4 was recording at 720p 30 fps. This video is also testing the microphone quality of both cameras. I alternate between the two camera's microphones so you can hear a little bit of each camera's microphone quality. This comparison has some shots of scenery, trees, flowers and some close up shots aka. macro photography. The footage of the iPhone was shot with the back camera as the back camera is a higher definition camera then the front facing camera. This comparison is a side by side comparison and should be viewed in full-screen and 720p HD for best results. I personally think the Kodak Playsport Zx5 is a way better camera then the iPhone 4. This video was made in Sony Vegas Pro 10 and is in 720p HD (widescreen).

Testing out the Zx3 to see if it will work for filming snowboarding. So far the footage looks good. This was taken on a snowy, cold and windy day at Keystone resort in late Nov. Battery life held up in the cold. This is shot without a wide angle or fisheye lense. First time using this camera so the footage is a little shaky. Overall impressed.

Kodak CLAIMS the camera is waterproof up to 10 feet. So how did it handle a very rainy night? I was soaking wet, my wallet was soggy, my watch foggy, my phone spotty, my underwear clingy... The video camera only needed to be wiped dry. No water had found its way inside the camera whatsoever. The Zx3's low light performance was way better than I would have expected from such a little thing. Granted its overall performance was far from perfect, but at least it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the horrendous Sanyo Xacti VPC-TH1. The Zx3's sound quality however is an entirely different story. I'll get into that in more detail during the review. Recorded at 1080/30p (highest quality setting) with the electronic image stabilizer turned off.
