This one is called Lovers Choice! The Gargamel from the days he was at his best. Buju Banton was born Mark Anthony Myrie in 1972, near Kingston, Jamaica in a poor neighborhood called Salt Lane. Buju's mother was a higgler, or street vendor, while his father worked as a labourer at a tile factory. He was one of fifteen children born into a family which was directly descended from the Maroons, a group of escaped slaves who proudly fought off the British colonialists. "Buju" is a nickname given to chubby children which means Breadfruit. The name is ironic in light of Mark Myrie's slim frame, but it is, nevertheless, the nickname his mother gave him as a child. "Banton" is a Jamaican word referring to someone with a superior attitude and a gift with speech, but it was also the name of a local artist Burro Banton that Buju admired as a child. It was Burro's rough gravelly vocals that Buju emulated and ultimately made his own. As a youngster, Buju would often watch his favourite artists perform at outdoor shows and local dancehalls. At the tender age of 12 he picked up the microphone for himself and began toasting under the monicker of "Gargamel". His first single, "The Ruler" was released not long afterwards in 1987 under the production of Robert French.

This is a music video we made for the late and incredible, Junior Kimbrough. One that we at Little Ruby Pictures are most proud of having made. It was for the last record that Bob Palmer produced for Junior. When we were working with Iggy Pop on our independent, feature length film, Wayne County Ramblin', the video impressed upon him to ask Junior to open for him on the upcoming Iggy Pop tour. We were contracted by Fat Possum Records to make this video way back in 1993; we've been awaiting reimbursement for many a sad day and many a lonely night. Still, was an honor to have met and worked with such a great and talented man. Look for Otha Turner and RL Burnside among the patronage at Junior's Juke Joint. We also featured many of the remarkable paintings created by local artist Johnny Hughes, in the video, as well. The juke joint burned down shortly after Junior's passing, and we are sad for the loss of a kind and uniquely gifted musical legend in Mr. Junior Kimbrough. Born June 2, 1983 in Oklahoma City, OK, Darron "New Breed" Celestine was raised in Colorado Springs, CO and grew up on the southside block of Mazatlan. Raised by a single parent, his mother worked hard to support him and his older sister and brother by working a typical nine to five; she sold drugs from five to nine in order to give the best life possible for her children. Darron moved out on his own at the age of 16 and did what ever it took to get by and get money. Darron attended Sierra High School before attending New Horizons where he graduated from. He played basketball for Harrison High School in which local media dubbed him as "The Prophecy". His true calling came when his older brother, "Stack Dubb" purchased a keyboard. Intrigued with music, he began writing in 6th grade, to recording by 8th grade in the basement of his home. Evolving from a pastime to a true passion, he moved from recording in a studio in a garage to a professional studio by 2003. Joining the Air Force of the USA at age 19, he served his country until the age of 25. Although he was enlisted, he continued to be stationed in Colorado Springs to be near his mother who was battling many health issues. After serving his term with the Air Force, he began to work as a contractor for the government working overseas in Afghanistan. Continuing to devote energy into music, Darron began to develop a distinguished style. He was emerging as a, "hot local artist" following local performances that he began <b>...</b>
